HIGHLIGHTS:
+ Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are polishing the final draft of the script.

+ The Nova Corps reportedly play a big role in the film. Marvel Studios has made an offer to John C. Reilly to play their leader, Rhomann Dey.

+ Michael Rooker, will be playing Yondu who will actually be the villain of the piece.

+Lee Pace will switch sides from villain to hero in the film. He's possibly playing Nova (Richard Rider), Adam Warlock or Mar-Vell.

+ Gamora will have super strength and speed. Drax is practically invulnerable and possesses flight ability along with the capacity to fire cosmic blasts (think old school Drax). Rocket Raccoon is an intergalactic prison guard.

+ Other characters appearing include Wal Russ, Kronos and Nick Fury.

+Thanos will not be the villain of the film.

+ Groot comes to Earth looking to experiment on humans.

Hitfix just posted a pretty "meaty" article outlining the current state of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. The site seems fairly certain that Captain America: The Winter Soldier screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have been hired to do the final once-over on the script. They also report that Marvel nearly gave that task to Iron Man 3 screenwriter Drew Pearce before selecting Markus and McFeely.

I'm guessing the site has gotten their hands on the script because they divulge pretty significantt details about a few of the characters so stop reading here if you don't want any SPOILERS. They confirm that Gamora (Zoë Saldaña) will be the adopted daughter of Thanos and will possess super strength and speed in addition to being deadly with a blade. Thanos actually wiped out her entire race as an infant and raised her to be a living weapon. When she learned of these details she managed to break free of Thanos' grip. Drax (Dave Bautista) will maintain his classic comic book backstory as a reincarnated soul by Kronos. He will be able to fly, shoot cosmic blasts and will of course have super human strength. Rocket Racoon will be a guard at The Keystone Quadrant, "an intergalactic asylum for the criminally insane." His initial partner will be Wal Russ. Yondu, played by Michael Rooker will actually be a space pirate and the film's villain the site claims. Lee Pace's role is currently unspecified but HitFix says his character will be switching sides and that his character is being looked at for a spin-off potential. They speculate that he's possibly playing Nova, Adam Warlock or even Captain Marvel! Interesting enough, the site says Groot comes to Earth, looking to experiment on humans but Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) talks him out of it.

Probably the most interesting bit of info is the report that one of the most important figures in the movie will be the character, Rhomann Dey. HitFix reports that Marvel has already made an offer to John C. Reilly to play the part. The character has been described as "the Agent Coulson of the "Guardians" movie. However unlike Coulson, Rhomann Dey is the leader of his organization and in the comic books, he eventually passes his powers to Richard Rider, better known as the superhero Nova. Dey will reportedly be in communication with S.H.I.E.L.D. during the film.

The last bit of news is that Rhomann Dey will have a "peer" someone that's a "liaison" between the Nova Corps and the Guardians of the Galaxy. The name of this character isn't specified but Marvel is reportedly looking at such actors as Hugh Laurie, Alan Rickman, and Ken Watanabe for the part.

Lots of info in here to dissect and discuss folks. Do so below in the comment section.

"Guardians of the Galaxy is a Phase II Marvel Studios film set for release on August 1, 2014. The film will be directed by James Gunn who will work off a script penned by Gunn, Chris McCoy and Nicole Perlman. Chris Platt will star as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, with other members of the cast including Michael Rooker, Lee Pace, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and Ophelia Lovibond."

Rhomann Dey? Then that cements the inclusion of Nova for sure. Maybe.

Well I guess Nova and the Corps must be in the planning which makes total sense.

I like this although not sure how he can be the Coulson of GOTG unless they change a lot about him.

I guess he's popularity or lack thereof makes him easy to adapt and change on screen

OK couldn't resist and read the spoilers.
I see their doing lots of changes to the characters
That always causes inner-conflict for me
I don't mind changes in general but
when it's hero to villain it bothers me a bit

Still think this film will be awesome so
I'll just have to get over it :)

I really want to see how Marvel are gonna pull this off.
It took 2 massive cosmic events and a bunch of tie ins to set up the team in the comics.

Yondu the villain....wtf? I love Yondu but he isn't a bad guy....

So glad to have Nova join the party!! The 'liason' could easily be Worldmind, and you immediately get a piece of the success of Iron Man with the banter between Rich Rider and the aforementioned. It just seems so weird to have Gamora and Drax without Thanos as your villain.

I would love to see Michael Rooker play the villain in ANY comic book movie. I loved him in Walking Dead. Can't wait to see him in this.

HitFix is pretty spot on usually. They don't post these type of things often but when they do, it's mostly true.

Yeah Thanos will just be build up even more for Avengers 3.
He has to be a slow burn
can't just throw him in front to fight the Avengers or GOTG
they'd get massacred
plus the general uadience needs to get acclimated to him and his awesomeness
