Why are some of these covers moving? Well, that's because they will be 3-D Motion Variant covers. DC Comics is celebrating their Second Anniversary of their company wide relaunch dubbed The New 52 and to celebrate this time around, the DC villains are stepping into the spotlight with Villain Month starting in September. We'll be in a post Trinity War DC Universe and in the aftermath of those events longtime, traditional DC villains will be looking to capitalize in the upheaval and disquiet. Geoff Johns and artist David Finch are beginning a new seven-issue limited series titled 'Forever Evil' which is essentially a coalition of every major DC Comics villain you can think of. And spearheading that book will be Lex Luthor and SPOILER: (Catwoman). "Forever Evil is a chance for David and I to work on all the greatest villains in comic books," said Johns. "It's literally everybody. I don't even know if there's anybody not in it," he finished. There's more talk with Johns and Finch over at USA Today but be forewarned, some of it is pretty spoiler heavy.

Over at Buzzfeed, Dan Didio and Jim Lee also speak about Villain Month and highlight the fact that where Trinity War is confined between Justice League, Justice League of America and Justice League Dark, Villain Month will be a crossover event spanning across every New 52 title. That duo confirms appearances by the Joker, Metallo, Parasite however Lee admits that one villain he would have liked to see featured didn't make the cut. "I’ll say the one that i thought should have been there that we didn’t use was Hush," said Lee. But Didio addded, "But we have such big plans for Hush later, down the line, that we didn’t want to premiere it with this story. It was a little too early." Take note, Batman fans.

Huh...Bizarro looks like a dig at Grant Morrison's T-Shirt wearing Superman....

There's also a distinct lack of Joker in that Finch pinup....

So glad they're bringing Hush into he fold. One of my favorite villains.
Also, excited to see what they do with Joker in this Forever Evil bit. And Catwoman?! What's happening there?!

These redesigns... need to be redesigned.

creeper is not a bad guy!

And I think they dressed Poison Ivy a little conservatively. She's a femme fetale temptress. She looked cooler wearing the ivy bustier looking thing. Not a black and green leotard.

So these are the ones that will be included in the DC NEW 52 Villains Omnibus?

@superman7
I can hear the revisionists now, "But her new realism ROCKS! Nobody would wear what was Ivy's traditional garb! I can't believe you're hanging on to such ridiculous notions about 'tradition' and 'history'! History and tradition are just another way to say old, archaic, and out of touch."
CRAP! it's all crap.
Your point about her being a psychotic, femme fetale is on point. Creeper is NOT the Demon (and no I don't need to wait and see how it's handled. It's just wrong). I'll bet this new "Bizarro" speaks in grammatically correct sentences (we don't want to insult anyone who can't speak in grammatically correct sentences.
And why do MOST of the Justice Leaguers have the same collar motif?
Crap.

@Trptheorist
INDEED!

Strictly speaking, Creeper is not a villain.

This could be interesting.... I'd like to see some kind of villains Civil War as some villains are a bit on the "grey side" and others are straight up evil.

The 3D covers are cool! Wow, Poison Ivy got quite the conservative redesign. Her new costume needs work.

They should've made her suit all green. Black seems like an odd choice for Poison Ivy.

When did creeper become a villain? And I thought Catwoman was a JLA member now... WTH???
MarkJulian
MarkJulian - 6/3/2013, 7:04 AM
Poison Ivy has looked that way since the New 52 launch back in September 2011, The Creeper shown is not Jack Ryder but rather The Creeper spirit that I'm guessing will be attached to Ryder at some point and I'm fairly certain 'Bizzaro' is actually H'el (if you haven't been reading the Superman book you won't know who that is).

that is really cool

Love the new cyborg superman design
Caveboy0
Caveboy0 - 6/3/2013, 7:19 AM
i'm normally pretty understanding about female characters getting more respectful costumes, but the way poison ivy has been characterized her purely plant based costume is perfect. a perfect example to me would be her design in Long Halloween. its not even all that revealing, but its really cool looking really. The redesign is just kind of boring, its like all the rest of the costumes out there.
KrazyForKomix
KrazyForKomix - 6/3/2013, 8:13 AM
@MarkJulian
Yes. I have read the comic.
So you believe that the more arbitrary costume redesigns and origin rewrites of the NEW 52 are good and more importantly, serve a purpose in attracting new and younger readers?
Change in comics (over the years) is (almost) always done with an eye towards increasing readership longterm. Do you see any of this INCREASING readership longterm.
. . .
Neither do I.

Now it is true that lately, the comics industry has not cared at all about increasing LONGterm readership. They have focused entirely on the much easier goal of getting a quick shot in the arm by way of a death here, or a new number 1 there (and in too many cases, both). Any quirky curiosity plot point will do. Whether it's killing a star player; reviving a star player; redesigning a costume and reason for being; or creating a whole new sideways universe (Earth 3?) where even Sinestro wear's a Justice League motif collar.
Marvels answer (I know, "I thought we were talking about DC?) is redesign their costumes to match the cinematic universe. A move that has Black Widow wearing pretty wrist jewelry and firing automatic weapons INSTEAD of blasting baddies with her Widow's Bite. This is in the comics now. insane.
I don't care that Poison Ivy has "looked that way since the New 52 launch back in September 2011." Who cares how long it's been wrong. It's still wrong. It doesn't change the fact that her 52-costume has her looking like the fifth Power Pack kid (ya' know the one that comes back from the future furious that there aren't any carnations in her era).
She's supposed to be one with the plants and nature. Not look like an eco-terrorist who's day job could be a chemist for Wayne Industries. She's one Batman's psycho crazy arse villains. She should look it (and she used to).
By the way, this isn't about showing skin or some dark need I might have to see semi-naked women drawn on the page. IF THAT were my quest, theres plenty of places to go for that.
I'm with Black Canary ditching the fishnet.
Zantana, on the other hand, should keep 'em.
Power Girl does NOT need a hole to expose her chest.
But I digress . . .

This current trend to make heroes costumes more realistic is stoopid! They're bits of pencil. pen, and color. They're comics - NOT real people. Goodness Jack Kirby could get a job today. Poor Kamandi would be made to cover up in a Dune-like preservation/hydration kevlar battle suit. It's so MUCH more realistic. He'd need that when talking to the Giant Crab Thing.

@KryptonianAbominationClone
I can not BELIEVE what they've done to one of DC's greatest background characters. Waller is built like a tank. WHY the change . .?

Kyos
Kyos - 6/3/2013, 8:32 AM
Hm, this new Bizarro kinda reminds me of Tetsuo from Akira. And ever since the DCAU Justice League I'm a fan of Grodd - he was such a great and menacing villain! :D
KrazyForKomix
KrazyForKomix - 6/3/2013, 8:34 AM
Wait . . . I know. It suddenly occurred to me. Thinner, hotter Angela Bassett played her in the movies (GL). So now, OF COURSE, we need to redesign her to look more like the movie.
Continuing the bogus idea that movie goers are going to magically transform into comic buyers.
Never has happened.
Never will.
You want new comic book readers (who will intern want to go to superhero movies)? Then bring back (AND KEEP ON) a wide selection of superhero cartoons.
Forget about the toys.
Think endgame for once. Think long term.
Kyos
Kyos - 6/3/2013, 8:40 AM
Wait, they sexed up Amanda Waller? (O_o)'
dezdigi
dezdigi - 6/3/2013, 8:46 AM
Some of the redesigns aren't bad but I kicked my comic-reading habit when they switched to the New 52. I saw it as a good place to jump off, not jump on.
I may get some trades this winter to read, like Batman and Animal Man.
AraxisHT
AraxisHT - 6/3/2013, 8:59 AM
Why do they have to keep making the cool characters magic based? First Question, now Creeper.
KrazyForKomix
KrazyForKomix - 6/3/2013, 9:01 AM
The other awful thing about the covers (Marvel's too), is they do nothing to draw me as a reader closer to make the purchase. They all want to be potential posters.
Word balloons with exaggerated threats and cries of revenge will help to draw NEW future readers in.
Stop with the poster making and ridiculous posing! Give us our exciting covers again!

A good example of some bad marketing. Who are they and why should I buy your comic?!
Incidentally, that is Amanda Waller above . . . all 108 pounds of her.
KrazyForKomix
KrazyForKomix - 6/3/2013, 9:04 AM
NOT bait and switch. Actual moments from the issue (without revealing too much of course.
But yes, NO bait and switch.

Yeah... hot Amanda Waller, sure. Guess they'll attract some new fans with that, or at least that's what they hope. (-_-)'

Also: The Question is magic based now? You know what, [frick] it, I'll just rewatch the Justice League cartoon...

Not a good bizzaro.
But a very cool cyborg superman.

I wonder how cyborg fits in skew 52?
Dan dILDO swore up and down thatnew 52 was a top to bottom do-over of DC.
He is a liar and aa hack. Skew 52 has incoherent continuity.

Fans are still butthurt over the New 52. Get used to it. It's evolution, baby. Change is inevitable. I actually like the Bizarro and Cyborg Superman looks. Grodd is freakin awesome and DAMN! Amanda Waller is smokin'.
KrazyForKomix
KrazyForKomix - 6/3/2013, 9:36 AM
@ OhThePurdue
No one is "butthurt."
Change is not bad. Some change is bad.

But as long as you're happy with a smokin' hot Waller - well that certainly puts and end to the discussion.
Well said!

KrazyForKomix - 6/3/2013, 9:52 AM
So bring on the NEW NEW 52! More reboots please! This was some change. Lets have more, because more change is better. I am ready. 'Til Superman gets his underwear back, I'm done. Only Wonder Woman has been any good WITH REGARDS TO THE NEW PRIME UNIVERSE STORY-LINE CHANGES.
I am NOT saying there hasn't been some interesting stories written since DC went through "The Change." But none that needed, or couldn't have existed without, a new universe being created for them.
Earth69
Earth69 - 6/3/2013, 10:23 AM
The New 52 got me back into comics after not reading any for 7 years. As far as im concerned its been successful just for that. I have a pull list a mile long, and I have no intention of dropping any particular book any time soon. I read a bunch of Marvel Now stuff as well, but the new 52 has reignited my love for comics in general, which is not something I thought would happen again.

Im not worried about what comic snobs and continuity purists bitch and whine about when im enjoying what im reading in the now. Im actually glad I got back into comics at the launch of the new 52, that way I dont have blind nostalgia clouding my vision.
KrazyForKomix
KrazyForKomix - 6/3/2013, 10:42 AM
. . . and some comic fan whose fallen off the happy-wagon because of the NEW 52, will return and get "back into comics after not reading any for 7 years," when DC does their next big thing. It's the circle of life.
I will say, those NEW 52 fans are an aggressively opinionated lot with all the name calling they do.
It's too bad they can't express themselves without suggesting that there argumentative opposites are "whining," "butthurt," "stupid," or "bitchy."
But as long as DC made the new exercise-friendly Amanda Waller bare her cleavage, it's all good.
Tevii
Tevii - 6/3/2013, 10:46 AM
I feel what you are saying KrazyforKomix, but overall i have to agree with earth 69. Ive been collecting comics for over 20 years now sp yes the change was hard at first, but also exciting. it got me collecting mpore comics than i have in a long time.
Sure some changes suck and dont quite work, like Waller, wonder woman, Poison Ivy, Arsenal(the saddest change of all), but some changes do work such as it feels more cohesive overall and that's a MAJOR thing to keep readers long term. As do JLA, JL Dark, Animal Man, All Star western, Aquaman and even thought they didnt really change, the Gl and Bat titles.
Changes like the collars, or superman's lack of underwear is a ridiculous thing to ever care about. costumes always change and evolve. this couldve happened without the New 52. And as cool as it is to have so many CBM's it does suck that the movies now influence the comics. But thats the price we pay because every pro has an equal con.

Not gonna lie, I dig the look of Cyborg Superman. But looking at those rotting covers made me ill.
RichardHedski
RichardHedski - 6/3/2013, 10:54 AM
I will admit some of the changes were hard to get used to at first. I was a little skeptical but after I read Aquaman, Flash, Superman and Action Comics, Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, Earth 2 and many others, I got hooked. There are some that I don't care for but I focus on the ones that I do. I still read some Marvel stuff but the New 52 much like Earth69 said, did help me get back into comics, though.
