Stephen Amell Says Bigger Characters Than Green Arrow Appearing In ARROW Season 2

Arrow actor Stephen Amell says the 'game-changer' for Arrow Season Two is that characters 'more familiar than Green Arrow' will be showing up. I can think of 'six' heroes that fit the criteria. Let the speculation commence!

"The thing that makes me most excited about the show is that when we were up shooting the
pilot, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim came to me with ideas for Season One - 'Here's where we're looking at taking Season One.' All of these things happened, all of these fleshed out ideas ended up taking place. They sat me down [again] after my last post-production work for Season One back in Los Angeles and Andrew Kreisberg sat me down and gave me the big pitch and then after I got the pitch he went 'OK, here's the game-changer.' And the game-changer is a 'game-changer.' I can't say [specifics] but it's something and some people that aren't just familiar to DC Comics fans...they're like...more familiar than Green Arrow."

Now Amell was careful not to give away any specifics but his words and his body language leads me to believe that we're going to see some MAJOR DC Comics characters in Season Two. With the first season being such a success, it's entirely possible that Warner Bros. has decided to become more lenient with who's available and who's off the table in terms of their DC characters. Remember, there currently isn't a Batman film in the works and the network is already actively retooling their Wonder Woman pilot. It's entirely possible that Diana of Themyscira is being retooled to spin more organically out of Arrow. Either way, I'm hoping we'll have more definitive reveals at this year's San Diego Comic Con which producer Andrew Kreisberg has confirmed to me that they'll be attending.

And in case you still haven't listened, here's my exclusive interview with Kreisberg where we touch on a few Season Two topics.

"After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine."

Bigger than Green Arrow? That's good and all, but I would like it to not turn into what Smallville was.

I hate the phrase game chager. It's so overused these days its obnoxious.

As for this it would make sense to introduce Diana and see how she tests with audiences, and then make a show out of her if shes popular. Kinda like they did with Green Arrow...

Difference between Arrow and Smallville is that Oliver is already the superhero in a suit and whatnot.

He already is Green Arrow. We will see, however, him become the ideal emerald archer of the comics as the show progresses.

If they are smart they will use this series like Marvel will use Agents of Shield and make it part of their universe. Then they can have whoever they want on it. They could tell stories in between the movies and use it as a launching pad for new shows and big productions. If they were smart. Also, start pouring a lot more money into it a la Game of Thrones.

My problem is, I don't want this turning into the Super Friends, I still want it to be Green Arrow.

It's ok to bring other characters into the show. I just don't want it happening so much to the point it doesn't seem like a special thing when these characters (or character) appears.

Don't worry wrestler, they know that. They will continue to keep Arrow the focus I'm sure.

Don't watch the show but I've read they don't intend to use super powered people on the show (of course this all might have changed with MOS movie). Nightwing is a good guess. I would love to see Nightwing on TV. Azrael, Blue Beetle, Human Target, The Question.

Love how no media exposure is better than media exposure to people like KrypotonianAbominationClone.

Arrow uses a ton of minor characters that lets face it WILL NEVER be translated seriously on the big screen anyway. So whats the harm? If anything, fans of the show, might be encouraged to pick up comics.

They are reinvented sure, but many are also kept very similar. Look at Deathstroke and Deadshot.

No media adaption has successfully translated everything, so why attack Arrow?

Its a fantastic show.

Slade Wilson/Deathstroke and Roy Harper/Speedy-Arsenal have already been announced as full time Season 2 cast members!
Whoever thinks Henry Cavill or Christian Bale are going to make an appearance are sad delusional Hollywood fans and have no idea how these things work!

Speedy! haha...just kidding.

Nightwing definitely, but wouldn't they need to bring in Batsy first? Although I'm guessing it will be like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and save some of the bigger names for the big screen...which of course makes sense in the grand scheme of things when it comes to casting, etc.

Also look at all the easter eggs they already primed in season one like Ferris Air, Kord Industries, Coast City, etc..

To KryptonianAbominationClone - Hollywood movies and TV have to bastarized the source material to make it more relevant and successful with the general mass public! Not everyone who watched the movies or shows read the comics and that grants the writers leeway to adjust the origins or powers of characters.

BlindJustice did you miss the pilot or second half of the season? Ollie calls Thea "Speedy" in the first episode and Roy Harper was brought in during the second half of season as Thea's boyfriend and someone obsessed with "The Hood" so Speedy is already involved

It can't see it happening, but maybe Tom Welling's getting antsy in his slower schedule? Arrow isn't really a universe for Superman yet. Still, it would be neato burrito as they say.

HeaDQuaKeJr
HeaDQuaKeJr - 6/18/2013, 10:52 AM
95% if all comic related stuff.. movies or tv shows or cartoons .. are NOT going to be realistic! It's impossible! I don't care if it is DC or Marvel.

So many of these characters have been around for so long, even different comic writers have changed their origin stories or powers! So if you are a fan of the cartoons.. IT IS ANIMATED AND EASIER TO 'FAKE' THAN THINGS REAL HOLLYWOOD HAS TO TRY TO PUT TOGETHER!!
BlindJustice
BlindJustice - 6/18/2013, 10:53 AM
I hope they skip the Speedy part... Arsenal just seems more of the right tone for this show. Speedy would've fit in over with the Smallville kids.

Also continuing to call me retard? Talk about a new and distasteful low.

Personally I love Arrow, and hope that it'll be part of the DCCU, a man can dream can't he? If they do go that route, I can see them having subtle easter eggs like on the news they see the destruction of metropolis after the supes/zod fight and arrow decides not to go look for supes bcuz he fights for the little guy now. Just a thought.
HeaDQuaKeJr
HeaDQuaKeJr - 6/18/2013, 10:55 AM
BUT if they use speedy they might be able to work in the Vertigo drug dealer story arc.. although Thea "Speedy" was already addicted and she kicked it so I guess they DID use that story!
Don't mind me.. I'm having my own conversation
