Warner Bros. Pictures President Jeff Robinov Quits

Ever since an October 2012 in depth report from the LA Times on the tumultuous state of affairs at Warner Bros., there's been much speculation on how the film studio's inner turmoil affects their plans moving forward for Justice League and other DC Comics adaptations.

Deadline reports that current "Warner Bros. Pictures Group President" Jeff Robinov has quit amid reported tension between he and newly appointed "Warner Bros. Entertainment CEO" Kevin Tsujihara. If you recall, Robinov, then "Home Entertainment Group President" Tsujihara and "Television Group President" Bruce Rosenblum were all vying for departing CEO Barry Meyer's position. In the end, Tsujihara won out over his peers and in the aftermath, Rosenblum was pushed out and many have speculated for weeks about whether a similar fate awaited Robinov. It appears Robinov was tired of waiting himself, as his contract with the film studio is set to expire in December and contract negotiations were reported to be non-existant. Unlike his predecessor, Meyer, Tsujihara is reportedly very active in the film department of "Warner Bros." where Robinov was previously given free reign; combined with rumblings of the cold-shoulder he's given Robinov it's really no wonder why one of the most powerful film executives in the world decided to pack it in and call it a day.

It was reported previously that while the nearly three-year-succession was being hotly contested, the energies directed there slowed development on a "Flash" movie. There's also the matter of "Warner Bros.'" current negotiations with "Legendary Pictures", the smaller film studio who co-produces and co-finances the studio's "DC Comics" superhero adaptations. Robinov was reported to have a contentious relationship with Legendary CEO Thomas Tull so his exit could actually prove a boon in those negotiations.

Robinov has enjoyed much success in other genres, but it's recent reports that he was spearheading the company's superhero movement that should be cause for concern. Robinov was a strong supporter of Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" and went on record to state that by the time the film finished its theatrical run, it would be the studio's "most lucrative film" to date. He also stated that "Man of Steel" would spearhead a new "DC Cinematic Universe". With Robinov's imminent departure and Tsujihara poised to assume many of his duties, it's currently unclear what WB's intentions for superhero theatrics are outside of a sequel to "Man of Steel."

It's been unclear for years what the DCCU has in store for us...

Batman Begins...

Superman Returns.... Boo... Wait, World's Finest film?

TDK....

Green Lantern... Oooooooo Another hero, JUSTICE LEAGUE!

TDKR.... Reboot!

Man of Steel... Hell yeah! Zack Snyder quoted saying he'll be asked to make Justice League, It's happening! Wait, a sequel? World's Finest? Wait, we don't know who Batman is. How will that work? How will JLA work? We've never seen Flash or Aquaman or Wonder Woman...

My advice: Sequel to Man of Steel must be World's Finest. Have Batman be an already established vigilante (Like in Burton's film), he's already Batman, no origin needed. Have him make a snarky remark about Supes [frick]ing up his satellite and have them feud for 20 minutes until Luthor or Metallo or someone comes in to [frick] shit up, then they team up to take him on...

Lead into JLA with Darkseid or Brainiac...

Hell, do it exactly like Johns and Lee's run, the first volume of the New 52. That was perfect! Just drop Cyborg's pathetic, useless ass and put in Martian Manhunter...

Make it happen, WB!

Hopefully this means WB will make amends with Legendary and make more DC movies.

@TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM The Batman/Superman dynamic/meeting for the first time should be saved for a JL film because those two meeting for the first time WILL be the reason most general audience members come and see this.

I think at the very least a WW and Flash movie need to be made before a JL movie.

Hey, Sony and Marvel Studios are taking risks... WTF WB? Seriously, Sony has already marked release dates (Years) for TASM3 and 4. Marvel has films bookmarked all the way up to 2018-19. Come on... Live a little... Make the sexiest, most orgasmic 3D movie ever with Aquaman, bring in a whole new fan crowd of women and girls with Wonder Woman. Reboot or don't reboot Lantern. Just do SOMETHING!

Can we say Sony is taking risks? They are just making Spider-Man movies.

I read about this last night and now they have a "Triumvirate" that will be sharing duties under Tsujihara and will cover Robinov's duties. Interesting thing though is that Tsujihara has no movie experience. Very curious now to see if they actually shoot for a MOS 2 movie now for next year. Cavill is back in the gym and the fact that this time they don't have to be CGI crazy like in MOS, means they could actually pull it off. Plus with the rumors that Goyer already has a script almost completed, means that they are well into the pre-production phase and are flying under the radar. The old rule of thumb of 3 years between sequels is becoming a thing of the past. Fast and the Furious 7 for example is set to release this time next year.

WB already has plans for other DCCU movies and those will be revealed at the SDCC in July.

I always read reports that this guy was the reason that no DC movies were being made, but in this article it says he was all for the DC cinematic universe. WB needs to get their shit together.

So, Robinov wanted more DC superhero films and he was contentious with Legendary... that's 2 for 2 in my book. Okay, 2 for 3, since he supported the trainwreck that was MoS.

Thor and Cap were not box office hit but they are still gonna get sequels.I don't know why WB are so worried with how much MOS is going to make.

I saw Man Of Steel last night and I thought it was great. However, I hope it doesn't lead to a Justice League film or a DC Cinematic Universe, because it still seems a bit forced. Watching Man Of Steel, it was quite clear that the film was originally intended as a solo film and not as the starting point of a shared universe, so I think they should just keep this Man Of Steel series separate, and do the same with their other heroes for now. I'd much prefer unrelated superhero movies which are well made, than a bunch of decent superhero movies which are forced together and result in a rushed and poor-quality Justice League film. Because when the Justice League film does get made, it needs to be perfect.
