At the time of its announcement, news of a Green Arrow television show on The CW that was not a spinoff of Smallville's Emerald Archer was met with a fair amount of consternation. But the program has overcome that doubt and the naysayers to become the network's number one television program, averaging 3.2 million viewers in its freshman season. The show received favorable reviews from critics with an average MetaCritic score of 73 out of 100 (for comparison, the first season of The Walking Dead received 82 out of 100). With a strong foundation underfoot, The CW has just announced that Season 2 of Arrow will premiere October 9th at 8pm. The series is spearheaded by leading man Amell, with a strong supporting cast comprised of Katie Cassidy, Manu Bennett, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, Willa Holland, Susanna Thompson, Colton Haynes and Paul Blackthrone. The guiding creative forces are longtime television and comic book writers Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg along with show creator Greg Berlanti. One of the show's primary strong suits is the fight choreography which is led by James Bamford.

Here's a chat with executive producer Andrew Kreisberg on Season Two.

"After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine."

I hate that they moved to 8pm and Supernatural moved to Tuesdays at 9pm. The Wednesday night 1-2 punch was perfect.

Hell Yeah! I can't wait!

@batz I love Katie Cassidy. It's a shame we won't see her wear the fishnet stockings when she becomes Black Canary. She would rock the hell out of them with her beautiful body.

People will be able to take Black Canary more seriously though with her wearing actual pants or tights when fighting crime, which is important.

@Ineedrevelation

Diggle will never be Arsenal as Roy will be...

My diggle theory is they will make him Cyborg.

I don't think Diggle needs to be anyone other than Diggle. I would love to see him added to the comics.

Good show, can't wait for it to return. I don't think they have to make everyone a superhero. Thea should just remain his sister and Diggle should stay Diggle. If they want to have Roy be Red Arrow OK but not everybody needs to be a superhero. They seriously need to start calling him the Green Arrow too. The Hood Guy just sounds dumb.

They've already practically confirmed they're leading up to him being called Green Arrow

Seriously people this will probably be a long show, why call him that right off the bat?

I've never been so bored by a CB TV show. Dreary, dull, monotone soap opera, at best.

If anything...make Diggle a loose version of Bronze Tiger. But I prefer keeping him Diggle.

I hope to see the second season of Arrow. It is by far THE best television show in the world. I love everything about it, including Katie Cassidy. She is such a beautiful, intelligent, and talented young woman.

Been watching this show since the Pilot!!

Let's see a more armored version of the suit in season 2!

And let's have Diggle stay Diggle. No need to create a [frick]ing Arrow family of crime fighters.
