Could 'THE WALKING DEAD' Introduce Negan Sooner Than Expected?

Besides the Walkers, the two big villains introduced in the published pages of Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's "The Walking Dead" has been The Governor and now Negan. At the moment, if you ask fans of the comic book series who's their favorite villain, you'll probably get more votes for Negan than The Governor. With that popularity, Kirkman was asked if there's any desire to introduce the villain earlier than what would necessarily be the expected insertion point. Said Kirkman, "That's definitely a real temptation when you are adapting a show." He continued, "It's sometimes a struggle because I feel like there are very cool things that are waiting in the wings in the comics that we could do earlier in the show. But those things only work the way they work because of everything that came before them. We have to build up to them properly. Negan isn't going to be as cool if we don't set up this, this, this, and this. We do want to do Negan, and it seems likes everyone on the show does want to do Negan, but we are going to have to do all these other things first."

New showrunner Scott Gimple also commented on the introducing of Negan, stating, "Reading the book now and reading Negan as a character, I'm like, "Damn, there's so much to do before we get to him!" One of my favorite issues with him recently was the Carl/Negan issue. I think it'd be such an amazing episode of TV, but we have a lot to do before we get there."

Where do you stand on the Governor/Negan debate? The fan opinion on The Governor (David Morrissey) last season was not as positive by the end of the season finale in comparison to when the character was first introduced. Would you like to see The Governor storyline wrapped up more quickly to get to Negan or should the show continue to take its time with that story arc?

They should kill the Governor in the first block of episodes, reach Alexandria by season's end. Then they can set up Hilltop, Negan, and the saviors for season 5 and onwards...they've really screwed this show up in the last year.

they are doing great with what theyre doing..let them take their time..i dont want a rushed show..i want the best possible and thats what ive been getting..we gotta have the demise of the governor,abraham, eugene and those characters, the hunters, reaching the alexandria safezone, and then maybe they could meld it together with that..but i dont know..there is still alot between that and negans intro.so let them take their time..i love this show so much..and cant wait till october

plus we dont know how negans story ends in the comics yet..so we have to see that..if it does end?..but im cool with readin alot more issues

I freaking love Negan! Although, I don't see how they could put him into the show without him saying the F-word every other word. Oh well, he's a great villain.

after negan gutted spencer all he cared about was where spencers pool table was

Given the fact that they completely butchered the whole Governor/prison story arc, I'm sure they will due the same with the Negan story.

@Dman I agree, although the cannibal story was brief it's one of my favorite parts of the series.

Negan is a character better suited for Starz or HBO. AMC didn't go with the Gov's dark side & what he did to Michione. While I would love to see Negan on TV, I doubt they show him behaving as bad @$$ on TV as he is in the comic. He's on that Spartacus/Game of Thrones level that AMC can't really touch honestly.

They didn't even show the Gov shoot Merle really, anyone think they show what Negan does to Glenn? My initial thought is NO.

I do think however that Negan could be the type of character that could be the death of Daryl. JMO.

Introducing hmmm...maybe at the end of the season.....with the way things have been altered from the comics,I'm expecting Glenn and Darryl to die this season.

Seriously, though, Negan is pretty awesome as a character. I love his odd sense of honor. Save him for the next season finale or at least wait till Governer is done with.

There is so much character development that goes on between the prison and Alexandria that they will miss out on if they introduce Negan now.
