According to JoBlo.com Zachary Quinto (MR. Spock) wants a break from Star Trek. "I’m stepping away from Star Trek for at least two years — no movies, no conventions, no anything for a while," said Quinto.

He went on to say “I’m stepping away from that genre and exploring a lot of other territory."

It's not clear at this time what kind of effect this "leave of absence" could have on the June 29th 2012 release date for the next Star Trek.

yeah, thankfully he's locked in. He was an awesome Spock, he could be great in other things and he should certainly be able to expand his career...but I don't want to see him go.

I understand where he is coming from....First Sylar and Now Spock. That could tie up a large part of his life. He is a sum wut big name right now and should try other parts. But dont quit on a part that could make him even bigger.

Being that Heroes is likely on its way out, he's probably looking for another project, aside from Star Trek of course.

I think he meant to say was " I think i am going to step away for atleast 2 years but can't due to my contract, so i'm retracting my comment and replacing it with I will be stepping back in to do Star Trek " ... Just a simple mistake

Either way he is a good enough actor to play other roles maybe a superhero...hmmmm i wonder who

He is not that wrong. He knows,Spok is just the kind of character that clings to you for a lifetime. End up being virtually remembered only for that. Exactly how happened to Shat,Nimoi etc. Look at their career and tell me i'm wrong. Even after 50 years we are here to discuss whether Shatner should appear in the next movie or not :-D
In any case he knew it even before signing the contract. So now, dear Zac,you better show a little gratitude for the role that skyrocketed your career and stay attached for another couple of movies.

Oh Mr.quinto@ if you wanted just to say:" ok guys, now we are at the beginning of 2010 and the next movie will be released at least two and a half years. SO DON'T BREAK MY BALLS already now".. Well,my apologize

is it just me, or does that make it sound like he's not too excited about the role?? i mean, he did one movie and needs a break?? i could understand if he was in 3...hell, even 2, but one?? and to say that he won't appear at any conventions or anything either?? he just doesn't sound like he likes the part.

i don't know, maybe its just me

He is acting extremely illogical! ;)

I think it's great that he wants to get into other genres. But people need to think about it when they take on these roles.

If you're going to accept a job to play an iconic role like Spock, or Spider-Man, or Captain America, etc, and the movie does well, then it's likely you'll be associated with that role for the rest of your career.

Taking a break is cool, but hopefully he will keep going with playing Spock and put the best effort he can into doing so. :)

I hope he is back, but there are ways out of these contracts.

Playing Spock is most likely going to be the best thing that will ever happen in his career. Typical of younger actors who think that they will always be in hundred million dollar films, land the ego dickwad. Put on the damn ears and blue shirt and thank your faith that you're even in a movie. Some of these actors today need a good crack in the mouth for the stupid words they choose.
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 1/28/2010, 11:00 AM
I agree with Assassin666, this is the role that can make catapult him into other movies and genres. It would be idiotic for him not to continue on playing the role of Spock for more than one sequel. Your acting career is a marathon young man...not a sprint.

he said there had been a missunderstanding, check zacharyquinto.com/news

ThunderCougarFalconBird - 1/28/2010, 11:37 AM
when exactly did he say this? My point is, it's just over 2yrs to go before the next movie. Therefore it's just under 2yrs before filming. This 'break' could just mean no media/promotion work before the next film.

I've not seen the new Star Trek yet but he is awesome in Heroes. The way he can change his entire screen presence in a heart beat is the work of a class actor!
palovana
palovana - 1/28/2010, 12:34 PM
I guess they'll start filming way sooner than in just under 2 years from now... In a couple of months or a year or so, I'd say.
And he announced this yesterday or the day before.

I would like to mention that he did a fantastic job doing voice overs for Star Trek Online. While he isn't reprising his role as Spock there his EMH is awesome. I hope he reconsiders. The fans will appreciate him for it. I hope he appreciates them.

He's frickin' young, he should milk it while he can. At least he can act so he has something to fall back on when he tires of it unlike Shatner, who is a terrible actor.
