Mike Sampson from JoBlo.com who was lucky enough to get a glimpse of the film costume for the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger posted his description last week and created quite a buzz around the net. Some very artistic readers from the site have submitted art based on his descriptions and he has posted the most accurate for us to see.

This From JoBlo.com....

They're all pretty close to what I saw though everyone seems to have the straps a little off. The helmet on the first sketch below is actually shockingly accurate with the only difference being that you can't see Cap's ear in the film's costume.

I hope its for the WWII outfit, if he uses it too for the modern age, it will suck! : P

It doesn't look like Cap has to worry about this:

Stubbyswof- I didn't know what WW2 shoulder pads could look like so i made them look like... well... very similar to Dallas cowboy helmets LOL :P

SixSixteen: My thoughts exactly. It's not as good as I hoped for but certainly nowhere near as bad as it could have been. I think it could grow on me.

So any word on whether the shield is round or not???

Overall I like it but I'm not so sure about the shoulder pads.

That first sketch is pretty awesome :')

what's with the suspenders? Did Evans get the "boot" and Larry King take over the part? Let me guess, rather than being frozen and not aging, he becomes a geriatric mediocre reporter/TV show host whose sense of style remained intact though 5 decades? WTF???

Oh and while your at it, loose the stupid shoulder pads. Jeez ... are the people designing the suit the same people who worked on the wardrobe for Designing Women or the Dallas TV show?

@McLovin-- Did you even see the description of what the film's suit would look like? Because it doesn't seem like it. The "suspenders" and shoulder pads are both a part of the film costume...this is just a rendering of what the costume could look like, based on what details we have.

And c'mon, we should have this shield, even if its just for a few minutes in the movie, before the round! =

Those look nothing like WWII uniforms, except perhaps where the boots meet the pants. Here are actual photos of U.S. field uniforms in WWII:

Jacket, Field, OD
(M41 or Parsons Jacket or M-1941)

M-1943 Field Jacket

@Tea- Nope, there's just no time for poo when you have to save the world.

@McLovin- They just look like USGI M1950 Trouser Suspenders that help carry ammo. Nowadays much more stylish vest are used. He can carry a couple of 9mm mags in each suspender pocket, which would prove useful when going against Red Skull. Think of it as a vertical utility belt.

Awesome find HAWKS! :)

Not sure about the shoulder pads, but the rest of the costume (especially in the first image) looks perfect for a realistic and authentic WWII adaptation! The Ultimates 2 style mask and chin strap in the top drawing is exactly what I was hoping for so it's great to see that up there!

No wings = not Cap. His wings are no different than The Flash's lightning bolts/wings, and I guarantee you the designers won't remove those if Flash ever gets a movie.
OdinsBeard
OdinsBeard - 6/1/2010, 10:39 AM
starsandstrapes@ yeah at least paint them on the side or something. i don't see why it's such a big deal. i like the wings. it's not a make or break thing for me but it seems easy enough to include them

@ contrast - you're right, I missed the memo. Where can I find this official description?

@Upupandaway - I get what you're saying. It's not that I hate the look. I just hate it for CAP!!!! So, is he "supposed" to carry ammo also? I know they are prob going to try and make this realistic, but is Cap going to be carrying a gun and shooting Nazis? So what happens later, he becomes anti-gun and joins the Green Party and Peace Corp simultaneously? I'm confused ... will Cap be more like Rambo in this film?

@ LEEE777 Don't worry, if there's a shield at all for the WWII period it'll be that shield, because they showed Mr. Stark creating the round shield in IM2

That is the worst rendition I have seen yet. In addition, if they use anything close to that the movie will be an epic commercial failure.

I'm digging the first and third drawings. A straight model of the Ult. WW2 suit would have been the best way to go IMO, but those 2 renders are reasonable adaptations of the Ult. WW2 suit that I can see on the WW2 battlelines.

The second render looks weird to me. Though it reminds me of the quintessential 80's guy with his collar turned all the way up. Just look at the neck in the second pic, that's what I see :P

I Love the uniform I hope it is the final version. It is a beautiful marriage of Caps original uniform and WW2 soldiers uniform. It is functional and realistic. I Love It:)

JOSH @ You've got to be joking, he looks more like a [frick]ing POWER RANGER!

Theres no WWII in it?! : P

13Deadpool13 @ Cool, lets hope your right man! I'm happy if they did use the round one in WWII though, but really it should be his original first b4 it! : D

LEEE- You do have a point there. Although i do love these sketches, there is nothing that says WW2 about them. They all look too modernised for the era. And i think that what threw them off is the "what you would see in X-Men" kinda leather outfit description. So if these sketches are accurate to what JoBlo has seen, it means either one of these two outcomes: 1) Marvel are out of their wits because Cap won't look like he's finghting in WW2 at all... OR... 2) It's the suit he will wear when they thaw him out and he suits up for the end of the film. And if this is the suit that he will have in the Avengers... i don't like it one bit. I mean, he will have to lead a Thunder God and a high tech armored hero in a suit that has faggotty dominant white parts and two little red straps to his uniform. The white on the arms wouldn't bother me as much if the gloves whent to the elbows but the whole half of the torso being white, front and back, is a really bad move IMO. Those two red straps will look so out of place it won't be funny. It'll be tragic. I mean, litterally put him next to Ironman and Thor and get a mental picture of how it would look. His outfit SHOULD have more... GUSTO than that IF it's the suit he'll have in Avengers. Not look like it was made in a garage in his spare time.

@jazzman + contrast - thanks dudes! I just read it and feel a little silly over my rant.. now.

I understand the struggle of making these silly spandex suits not look all gay and stupid in the real world. I was hoping for something less "practical" and closer to the original, for reasons that are in no way logical and can only hope to explain as what I describe as: The Fanboy Who Dwells Within!!!

Oh well, in retrospect, this could be a lot worse (as in: he could be wearing a leather biker suit WITH NIPPLES!!!).

I do hope however, that once he transitions to the Avengers, they update the WWII look to something that at least resembles the contemporary look a bit more...

Shaman & McLovin: I don't like this outfit one bit for The Avengers mydamnself. And I know that his costume is difficult to pull off on screen but could someone please explain to me why it can't be done.

If they can create believable, cool costumes that look great for Superman and Spider-Man on screen, Caps can't be impossible. Same colors! Between color tone and the proper material I'm convinced it could be done.
