AICN has received information from a source calling themselves "Son of Rothman" claiming that Mathew Vaughn has cast Aaron Johnson (of Kick Ass Fame) as the young Cyclops in X-Men:First Class. They also say that they have checked with another one of their sources who corroborated this information.

This from AICN...

Aintitcool Gang,

I work in the [REDACTED] and we heard today that Matthew Vaughn found his young Cyclops and it shouldn't be any surprise because he worked with him before. It's Aaron Johnson. This is one hundred percent locked at this point. Thought you guys should know.

Call me "Son of Rothman"

This has yet to be confirmed by the studio, Vaughn or Johnson.

If this proves true, what do you think of this casting?

Well... EVERYONE certainly called it the second Vaughn was on board. I wouldn't be surprised if this were true. In Kick Ass however, i felt he got outshined by pretty much everyone and that's the last thing that should happen with Cyclops' character ESPECIALLY in First Class. He better bring his "A-game" if he does land this role.

okay, now so many good cast in this movie... and in my opinion, the problem is in the upcoming story. i hope it will be great than the other films. I hope fox will make it great, not just the ordinary superhero film..

Sadly, I'm with @Tea. In an American Interview Johnson Was a dick to the fans, and acted like he didn't even like Kick-ass or the genre. He didn't wanna be there.
Now since Vaughn Is director I'm sure he will Get a role if wanted, but yeah he's not one you want in promoting Bizz. Now When I first saw this I was like no, that peter parker kid H*LL NO! not for cyclops but I looked up some pictures. He could do It.
Though I feel He could fit better as Arch or Iceman.
All In all So far I am Happy about the casting, but I want Atleast A goSh DaRN Cameo of GAMBIT, unless First class is a reboot!

@ Gambit89: They can make a 4th one because of the simple fact that there is time travel in the X-Men story lines.

tea@ but i thought you liked dicks?

he defeinately looks the part and is a good actor. it would be a step up from the other crap were hearing about the movie. i still wanna know if its a prequel or a reboot cause that makes all the difference in how i feel about the movie.

Shaman@ Well they let the character get outshined so bad in the first three movies that they just killed him off. I am not so sure FOX understands the character at all. I am setting my expectations for this one really low so that if it is decent I will be like "HELLS YEAH!". Know what I mean?

how many different people are gonna play cyclops?!?!!?!?
ASSASSIN666
ASSASSIN666 - 7/8/2010, 8:25 AM
I'm going to laugh my ass off when people go and see this and then the universal response of where's Wolverine happens. Where the core comic fans will no doubt get the fact of this being an origins movie, the other casual fans are going to be be really let down without Wolverine. Let's face facts both the comic industry, and hollywood have built up Wolverine to the point where comics, and films are dependant on him to carry the ball. Fox should have put this movie out to begin with, and introduced Wolverine in the sequel. I feel it's kind of late in the game to hit the rewind button and confuse people with this reboot shit especially if Fox is trying to lure the screaming little bitch fans of f**king Twilight. God help us all, I hate Fox

Great find HAWKS! :)

I'm with tea on this one - he really does come across as a right asshole in interviews! Regardless of that, he is a great actor, so I think I'd probably be pretty pleased with him as Cyclops!
ThaMessenger07
ThaMessenger07 - 7/8/2010, 8:30 AM
@ superdog: It really seems like a Re-boot. They are looking for Angel, Cyk, Beast, Jean, & Ice Man to be in the same range. That would make no sense nor find cohesion with the other films before it. I think they are just avoiding calling it a Re-Boot.

He just had a baby girl with his 43 year old girlfriend. lol

But I enjoyed him in Kick Ass, hope he does well in this if it's true.

I think people will understand that Wolverine isn't in this one, especially if its not a reboot. He joined up in X1. They better still have some good fight scenes, though.

The only thing interesting about this is Vaughn, and that is still only slightly raising my interest. Now, if they announce that it will be the original five, then I'll be interested, but that's not going to happen.

Assassin@ Hey now, Don't be surprised when Hugh Jackman shows up in this movie as the Assisstant Headmaster, Mr. James Howlett. They have no sense of continuity with these things so I wouldn't be surprised ....just ROFLMAO!

so are we ignoring X-Men Origins: Wolverine? or no? xP
i'm so lost if this is a reboot or not cause if it is then Tim Pocock must be pissed :D

i saw a few posts at the top about mr kickass being a dick, i saw him on friday night with Jonathan Ross(whose wife helped write/produce the film).

He was one absolute dreary guy, he is an immense actor, because roles like kickass and john lennon who are characters full of personallity, he has absolutely none, he just had nothing to say for himself, just seemed like a monotonous robot.

summary: Brilliant actor, dead inside
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 7/8/2010, 9:28 AM
I thought he was very good in Kick-Ass and for a young British guy, he does a great American accent, something a lot of more experienced actors struggle with. He is a good young actor who looks the part, what else could you ask for in an X-film featuring a group of new, young recruits.

And I'm pretty sure they will be filling us in shortly on whether or not this is a reboot. We are not supposed to know as of now considering nothing has been said.

Nice find Hawks.
