POLL: THOR vs. Superman

POLL: THOR vs. Superman

Continuing a three week tradition, I give you this weeks POLL match up... THOR vs. Superman.

Feature Opinion
By Hawksblueyes - Oct 09, 2010 03:10 PM EST
Filed Under: Thor

For the last couple of weeks I have doing hero vs. hero POLLS. The first one of these match ups took place between The Green Lantern vs. Deadpool which was won by a 2 to 1 margin by The Green Lantern. The response was better than expected so I thought I should do another.

I wanted to keep these POLLS between superheroes that already have, or are soon to appear in a motion picture. So, I decide the next match up to throw your way would be The Green Lantern vs. THOR which THOR won by a 2 to 1 margin. During that POLL I asked you for some character suggestions for future match ups and I received plenty of very good suggestions that I do plan on using. However, there was one suggestion I did not receive, regardless of the fact that people couldn't stop themselves from debating it in the articles comment section. THOR vs. Superman.

Well, seeing as how it was such a hot topic I decided to use them for this weeks match up. Click on the heroes names below for a full power description from Wikipedia. I could not find another source that contained rundowns of both characters powers. I suggest you click the links, you may find that you didn't know as much as you thought you did about each hero.

((( SUPERMAN )))

((( THOR )))

Special thanks to EditNinja for the use of this trailer.

Please feel free to comment and debate and may The best Hero win.

Judging by the results so far, there are a great many people who are not aware just how powerfull THOR is. I expected it to run neck and neck.

Gaston: Don't you enjoy a little pointless dabating? ;D

Thor wins when it comes to pure fighting skill and technique by far, but Superman wins when it comes to speed. Also, one of Superman's weaknesses is magic, and Mjolnir is enchanted by incredibly powerful magic.

Ok In The Box Office

I want to say THOR because after what Singer did to Superman returns I don't see a whole lot of people rushing to see another Superman movie, Honestly I don't know alot of people who care about superman anymore

Now in a battle Superman would destroy Thor
what I really want to see is Captain Marvel Vs Thor :P

TheDarqueOne - 10/9/2010, 3:41 PM
Thor is inherently Magical that is a huge plus. Superman does have super speed which is a big plus. Both are experienced, strong, fast, tough and absolutely refuse to lose.

For me it is 75% Thor 25% Superman.

There can never be a true answer because so much depends on the circumstances. So what I do is consider a wide range of types of fights and look for the percentages like I gave above.

PartyHard - 10/9/2010, 3:43 PM
Do you think Superman could just take Mjolnir from him? He can call it right back to him. And Thor is clearly far superior when it comes to actually fighting. Thor and Superman are very close in strength and I Thor is smarter when it comes to battlefield tactics by far.

Hey guys! It's been a while since I was last on here, but as soon as I clicked on the page and saw this I had to vote. I'm liking the Vs. polls that have been going up so far. This one has to be my favourite so far. Now for the debate.

Thor- A Godly Bada$$ from a mystical realm.
Superman- An alien with power coming out the whazoo.

Who to vote for?
Thor is THE God of Thunder and incredibly strong.
Superman is... well... He's F@#$ING SUPERMAN!!!

Winner (by a HUGE margin)- The last son of Krypton, The Man of Steel, Kal-El (aka Clark Kent)... Superman The Man of Tomorrow.
Sorry Thor fans. I had to vote for him, Supes is and forever will be MY BOY!
kalelrules
kalelrules - 10/9/2010, 3:54 PM
This is a pointless question. all you comic book purists have no leg to stand on. Its SUPERMAN!

He has alreasy beaten Thor in the DC Marvel crossover. That means both companies sat down and decided who would win, and guess what Thor [frick]ers? It was the man of steel!

So its retarded to talk about magic this and whatever. The fact is they did fight, and SUPERMAN won! The end..... you stupid Marvel [frick]ers!
marvel72
marvel72 - 10/9/2010, 3:56 PM
thor fans are gonna say thor.

superman fans are gonna say superman.

i prefer thor to superman,so thor wins.

also comes down to who writes the comic,if its published by marvel thor wins if its dc superman.

@ hawksblueyes

some ideas for polls.

1.smallville-love or hate.

2.smallville vs x-men first class-which one do you hate more ?

3.whats the best epic event in comics ? i.e crisis of infinite earths,secret wars,blackest night,siege,secret wars 2,world war hulk,final crisis,infinite crisis & so on.

God vs Mortal, DC vs Marvel match ups are never accurate because popularity decide the outcome.
Angelus
Angelus - 10/9/2010, 4:12 PM
I am probably gonna get it for this but Superman wins. Its Superman!
I do not know alot about Thor. I've heard the magic argument and that doesnt last long, since Superman cracked Wonder Womans sacred blade, blessed by the goddess Athena, which makes it magic. And he cracked it with a drop of his blood. Thats just insane.
He has made a sun. He fought Doomsday. And he has shown Darkseid that he can surpass the abilites of gods several times. It takes the light from the sun 8 minutes to reach earth, Superman brings Darkseid to the sun in a matter of seconds.
He holds a black hole in his very hand. He absorbs a nuclear blast of million nuclear heads. He lifts a key weighing half a million tons with one arm. And dont forget 200 quintillion tons.

Now fans of Superman will say Superman, and Thor fans will say Thor, but in reality, we all know Superman will win. Thor fans, the ceo of Marvel knows it. Stan Lee knows it. Its just that they want a more modern hero to win the poll. So if the poll doesnt go the way it should, its just people wanting Thor to win so much that they forget what Superman really can do and most importantly stands for.

Now, the JLA vs Avengers cross over; Superman is the victor in the fight with Thor. But that fight wasnt fair - The length of how long it took Superman to beat Thor was charity from DC. The rest of the JLA then attacking him and bringing him down? Come on. He is Superman. I hate gods in comics, I absolutely hate gods in comics, but I love the comparison between Superman and the messiah concept. Him being powered by the sun, the most essential source of energy and life. He is immensly powerful. He lifts the hammer, which he could break, showing the greatest point of all, he is worthy of it. I take that as a homage to that Superman is good incarnate. And as Superman tells Thor: "Sorry to disappoint but in my world it looks like the dial goes up to to eleven!" - He should've said 100. DC charity at its best.

But all his powers is nothing compared to his righteousness, his absolute sense of justice and moral. His compassion and his faith in the good of human kind makes him such a great hero. He is arguebly the most powerful superhero, but as Bats say: It is a remarkable dichotomy. In many ways, Clark is the most human of us all. Then... he shoots fire from the skies, and it is difficult not to think of him as a god. And how fortunate we all are that it does not occur to him."
If the whole DC and Marvel universe turned even, Superman would take them all on and stand victorious, or die while making sure that their wickedness wont touch the innocent.

It would never occour to Superman to use his powers for evil, for his own gain. He is absolutely selfless.
Thats what makes him so amazing. He is so powerful that he can punch through reality, but he wouldnt think twice of sacrificing himself to save anyone, no matter who they are and what they have done. But because of his powers, and unshakable belief he usually is seen upon as a boring superhero. But its the combination of the power and moral that makes him the absolute epitome of a superhero. He made the standard of all superheroes.

Now, Thor is probably mighty. He might be strong as hell and all powerful and magically enchanted but Superman is just the "mortal" version of the christian god. He is too powerful, to great. Even the Hulk is nothing compared to Superman. And some say Hulk owns Thor.

Thor could use kryptonite and lose. Thor could just as well through plastic at him. Superman has pushed through kryptonite and his kryptonian limitations time and time again. Even knocks out his cousin with kryptonite:

He arm wrestles Samson and Atlas at the same time without breaking a sweat:

And because of his goodness, and humility, he cannot be beaten. I know Doomsday did this and even Batman have accomplished this, but those cases are extremely special. Even against Doomsday, he never went all out . He never does. He is afraid of using his powers to the max because of the civilians. Batman is smarter than Supes, but when Superman isnt taken over by mindcontrol or some hypnosis, and when it really counts, he will stand victorious because good must win. If good dont prevail over evil, what chance does we have?

Supermans absolute greatest power which makes him an unbeatable force is his power to inspire good, to give hope even to a creature that is total void of the concepts of good and evil :

And btw, he even lifts a blackhole(!):

TDO: Thats how I judge it also. Believe it or not I started to make it a 3 out of 5 matchup but I thought that would get confusing.

deadpool72: I love # 2.

Angelus: Please don't post entire comic books or this article will not load properly for everyone. At least downsize them some.

Try not to look at this as Marvel vs DC. I know that's difficult with the characters I have chosen but that was not the intent. It's badass vs badass, nothing more. Also, I am sticking to movie heroes. I do have some interesting ones in mind.

BTW: The winner of this one getsThe Silver Surfer next week.

No problem. The only thing is, the more comments this article gets, the huge pictures start to mess with it. the smaller ones won't hurt anything. If you check in tomarrow and your great big pics are deleted, that will be the reason. Feel free to repost smaller version bud.

Isn't Thor's power magic based? If I recall Superman is venerable to magic based attacks. So my pick would be Thor.
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 10/9/2010, 4:42 PM
Thor's helmet wins after compressing Thor's head to the size of a pebble and then staring at Superman for exactly 3 seconds, hypnotizing him into thinking he's wearing a kryptonite tutu, at which point his insanity blows his brains out and the helmet flies away into the sunset.
Matowar

I am a huge Thor fan and a huge Superman fan. If we are talking comic books I think Superman wins in one hell of a great fight. If we are talking movies then I think I need to see the Thor movie before I can make a decision. Now the way I read it this is supposed to be movie incarnations of the superhero's so how can I know how Thor will be? Superman has already beat Thor in the comics so this is a moot point. Right? Also next week winner gets Silver Surfer, if its SS from the FF4 movie then who cares lol.
kalelrules
kalelrules - 10/9/2010, 4:50 PM
@Angelus - Well said! Please don't downsize your pictures, I really enjoyed your logic, it was well thought out and well presented. You should Post that as an article so you don't have some idiot telling you to downsize them.

@Hawksblueyes - Stop being such an idiot, people post tons of pics in the comments section all the time, just because you think want to suck Thor's winky and have him stick his hammer up your ass doesn't change the fact that superman will win.
billnye69
billnye69 - 10/9/2010, 4:51 PM
Superman, anyone who thinks different is an idiot. Silver Age Superman >>>>>>>>>>> Thor
Angelus
Angelus - 10/9/2010, 4:51 PM
What is happening here is that people are voting Thor because they simply want him to win.
But they know that Superman will win.
There is a great important difference.

I know Thor is supposedly a god but its Superman we are talking about. He is immune against magic now too, not that it would matter in the end.
His powers have never been fully unleashed. Never. And never will for the sake of innocents and civilians and the rest of the world.

@ Kalelrules - Thank you very much! I had to downsize them a bit, which I now have done. Hawks had a valid point and I have to repect that. I will start at my DC Greatest Heroes series/article in a few weeks. Superman will of course "only" be featured! ;)

I think Wonder Woman VS. Thor would have been a better match. I don't think Thor could beat her either.

"Continuing a three week tradition"
Hahaha nice. If you do the epic comic events that someone mentioned you should split it into DC vs DC and Marvel vs Marvel with the winners at the end. It's really hard to not see it as Marvel vs DC. It's a shame. These are fun though =D

@ Hawksblueeyes This is cool you should do a different fight every week. I'de like to see Superboy Prime vs. Rulk and Black Adam vs. Hulk and Captain America vs. Batman. You should list their strengths and abilities. Personally I think Superman would eventually knock Third ass out.
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 10/9/2010, 5:03 PM
kalelrules: I didn't ask him to take them away forever I asked him to downsize them because large pics will screw with the format when the comments start piling up. Matter of fact they already have. Those large pictures are the reason you have to scroll to the right to read an entire comment. Dude you had best not even start with me.

Tyler: I love that scenario. ;D

rsalas: I wanted to list their powers in this and the last article but both synopsis' take up about two pages (hence the links I posted). Glad you like these.

Angelus: Thank you, thats much better.

Superman for sure. Actually Wonder Woman is a closer match than Superman, although I'm sure there are those who disagree.

Superman wins hands down because he has taken on magic-based super-beings in the past and won or at least held his own ie- Captain Marvel.

And you are all forgetting something. Like what "Superguy1591" pointed out earlier- Supes BEAT hulk on at least 3 different occasions. Hulk whooped on Thor. So...we all know who'd win-

GO SUPES!!!!
SageMode

@LP4: and do you remember Thor defeating Captain Marvel in the DC vs Marvel crossover?

This would be a close fight, but I think Thor would win.
