This weeks VS match up pits the resident strong men from two of Marvels most popular teams.

In one corner we have a man who has appeared in countless cartoons and two major motion pictures as The Fantastic Four's resident strong man Ben Grimm (aka) The Thing. Although many of us are aware of the fact that The Thing is very strong, I'm sure most are not aware of exactly how strong he is. So I will give a brief rundown of his power.

The Thing

From (((Marvel Directory)))...

Strength Level: The Thing possesses superhuman strength, enabling him to lift (press) 85 tons. The Thing's strength grew considerably over the initial years of his career. At one early point in his life as the Thing, for example, he could only lift (press) 5 tons.

Known Superhuman Powers: The Thing possesses superhuman strength, endurance, and durability. The mutagenic, specific-frequency cosmic ray bombardment caused his musculature, bone structure, internal organ composition, soft tissue structure, and skin to greatly increase in toughness and density. The Thing can exert himself at high levels for about an hour before the build-up of fatigue poisons in his blood impairs his strength. His reflexes have remained at their above average human levels despite his greater mass. The Thing's lungs are of greater volume and efficiency than a normal man's, enabling him to hold his breath underwater for up to nine minutes, The Thing's five senses can withstand greater amounts of sensory stimuli than he could when he was a normal human being, with no reduced sensitivity.

In the other corner we find a man who has also appeared in countless cartoons and two major motion pictures. He is the resident strongman for The X-Men Piotr Rasputin (aka) Colossus. As with The Thing I give you a brief rundown of Colossus' power.

Colossus

From (((Marvel Directory)))...

Strength Level: In his normal human form Peter Rasputin possesses the normal human strength of a man of his age, height, and build who engages in intensive regular exercise. As Colossus he can left (press) at least 70 tons under optimal conditions.

Known Superhuman Powers: Colossus is a mutant with the superhuman ability to convert the tissue of his entire body into an organic steel-like substance, granting him superhuman strength and a high degree of resistance to bodily harm. This substance, resembling organic steel, is of unknown composition but appears to be analogous to osmium and to carbon steel. He is able to transform into this armor-like state at will (the process is virtually instantaneous) and remain in that form for an as yet undetermined amount of time. (The longest time he has remained in armored form so far has been five days). Once in his armored form he remains so until he consciously wills himself back to normal. If he is rendered unconscious, however, he spontaneously reverts to his normal form. While in his armored state, Colossus possesses the same degree of mobility that he does in his normal form.

In his armored form Colossus is highly resistant to most forms of bodily harm. His armor is capable of withstanding ballistic penetration, including that of a 110 millimeter Howitzer shell. He could survive a collision with a loaded, one-ton flatbed truck at 100 miles per hour or an explosion of 450 pounds of TNT. He can survive extremes of temperature from 70 degrees above absolute zero (-390 degrees Fahrenheit) to approximately 9000 Fahrenheit. However, it is theorized that above the latter temperature, his armored form would begin to melt. Colossus's armored form cannot rust under normal Earth conditions.

As always, may the best hero win!

■Superhuman Strength: After transforming into his armored state, Colossus possesses vast superhuman strength. As a teenager, he was sufficiently strong enough to lift about 70 tons. However, as a fully mature adult, his strength has increased to the point that he is able to lift more than 100 tons. [1]

That Says it all right there.
Pitor beats Ben Senseless.

Are you Colossus fan's illiterate? Read the bio's! I like Peter, but Ben is stronger and more experienced. With neither having an appearent weakness how does a 70 ton class beat an 85 ton class?

Math people! 85>70 or 70<85 Ben still wins.

This isn't who you WANT to win, read!

It's who WOULD win ... The THING!!!

In this fight the Thing DOES have a weakness. Water. In his metaled (that even a word?) form Colossus doesn't need to breath. He gets Ben in the water and Ben has 9 minutes to knock him out.

This fight would come down to two things: 1. The fights proximity to some body of water and 2. The intelligence level of Colossus to use that strategy. Haven't voted yet. Leaning towards draw.

And Leeee has me thinking next week Hulk vs Juggernaut.

One thing that is entirely ignored in this match up is that Thing is a VERY accomplished wrestler and brawler. He was the heavyweight champ of a super powered wrestling league and was putting dinks on the mat for the 1-2-3 before Piotr was done picking his nose. Colossus accordingly had a Monstrous strength level as did the Thing in the old marvel pen and paper RPG.
All of that aside I think Thing takes this because of his experience. He's gone toe to toe with every serious big guy in the Marvel universe and is still standing.
BLADE4040
BLADE4040 - 11/6/2010, 3:27 PM
Colossus wins... all he has to do is hang
in there with THE THING for about an
hour when his strenght levels drop and
he starts to tire out.

Colossus just seems to be
alot more POWERFUL...
I'll go with mutated STEEL
over a pile of cosmic ORANGE ROCK anyday!!!

According to "the official handbook of the Marvel Universe" Colossus is a class 100 (100 tons) and the Thing is a class 90 (90 tons).
Grimm is an excellent brawler and Colossus has had matial arts and fight training from Wolverine.
Colossus has stood toe to toe to Juggernaut more than once.
They really are pretty evenly matched.

Sorry X-Boys Thing wins--he has waaaayyyy more battle experience...he's more gritty (pardon the pun), He's stronger, and has the attitude to bend Colossus into a ball of scrap metal...we are talking here about a guy who has survived SEVERAL battles with the Hulk!!!!...Ben Wins T.K.O !!!!!

The Thing...more experience, more "panache".

Agree with the last couple of comments.
Sure there is a brute strength difference etc. But Ben in my opinion wins out where it really counts: Experience and tenacity.

i have to agree with blade4040 and definitly disagree with spideyquad leave it to a nerd to bring math to a fist fight...anyone who knows about fights knows straight strenght means nothing if u dont land the right hit and thing has a time limit to his strenght colossus doesnt hold out for an hour and thing is done for ...colossus takes this one!
mandrill
mandrill - 11/6/2010, 4:23 PM

1st of all,
Marvel Encyclopedia says Colossus can lift 100 tons and Thing around 85 tons.

From a boxers point of view strenght endurance is a key component in fighting, strategy, quality of training.

The Things is just a wreslter and brawler. Wolvie is the best at what he does, fighting and killing. so if Colossus is trained by Wolvie and his strenght endurance is greater than Things then my choice falls on...

Colossus.

Thing maybe good at fighting but better than a student trained by the BEST?

SpideyQuad - 11/6/2010, 4:39 PM
Like sissy kick-boxing is a real sport.

You X-kids will be lauding bull fighting at this rate.

Ever lov'n blue eyed Thing would always prevail over a commie!

If you can't understad the math Mandrill (really mind control fetish? Over women even? Is that venom on your hand!) Then hop over to history an learn dude!

Peter has never come close to beating a full power Juggy. Read, he can't even beat Sasquash or fag Gladitor.

And he's not an adult either. kids?
Maculis
Maculis - 11/6/2010, 4:41 PM
Colossus would win...he doesn't need to breath air, so if the fight went into the water or space, he'd win easy. Also, Colossus has extensive combat training, while the Thing is just a street fighter.
