Zack Snyder has written the script with Johnstad with a the intention of shooting the film in the same style that Snyder did with 300.

Reports Heat Vision:

Warner Bros. has zeroed in on Noam Murro to direct its 300 spin-off, 300: Battle of Artemisia (formerly known as Xerses). Murro was vying for the gig with Jaum Collet-Serra, the director of this year’s Liam Neeson thriller Unknown. But Warners, which liked both directors, in Solomon-like wisdom divided up gigs for the filmmakers, yesterday handing Collet-Serra the adaptation of Akira. An official offer to Murro is expected to be made early next week.

In the graphic novel the story takes place about 10 years before the original 300. The story will central around Xerses and his quest for godhood after the death of his father. The story is suppose to take place over many year but will focus on the battle of Artemisium.

No word on casting or a release date.

I like the name Xerxes way better. "300: Battle of Artemisia" sounds dumb.

They really should just keep the title as Xerxes. The film is about him and has nothing to do with the stand of 300. People will know its a prequel if they hear the name Xerxes, they'll remember him from 300. It would be nice if they brought back the actor who played Xerxes but since it takes place in the past I'm assuming they're gonna go with someone younger.

How I feel about this movie: meh. *shrugs shoulders*

Rodrigo Santoro certainly won't be back on the role.

Dude's Brazilian, but that ain't no excuse to need someone to do voice-over on your acting. If he couldn't straight up do it in 300, no sense in having him back for a Xerxes-centric movie.
