While giving the keynote speech at the MIP Junior Market convention, Warner Brothers Animation executive VP for creative affairs Sam Register revealed the title of a new animated series that will once again put the spotlight on Batman. The title of the show will be Beware The Batman and will debut some time in the year 2013. The show will be CGI based much like Green Lantern The Animated Series and is said to feature Batman's loyal butler Alfred as well as a new female sidekick ninja named Katana.

The next Batman animated series, debuting in 2013, is titled Beware the Batman. According to Register, the CGI animated series will spotlight a classic-looking Batman teaming up with a gun-toting Alfred Pennyworth and a female ninja sidekick. Beware the Batman is executive-produced by Glen Murakami, and will also explore the mythology’s more obscure villains, such as Professor Pyg, but will also feature mainstays such as The Joker and The Penguin. In the series, Batman will team up with a younger female sidekick named Katana. During the keynote, Register added that Katana will fill the sidekick role, but won't be a replacement for Robin.

As stated above the show will try and get in to some of Batman's lesser known foes, but will also feature the likes of The Joker and The Penguin.

Be on the look out for Beware The Batman sometime in 2013.

CGI factor bothers me a little as does gun totting Alfred a little maybe it will be cooler in movement. But everything else sounds cool I think all the Batman animated series should have a little variety and at least this one will stand out. If they are using Pyg then I hope they use Damian as Robin. Look forward to it.

"a gun-toting alfred pennyworth" well that sounds abit wrong, what with batman's hatred toward guns.

still i hope its good as batman the animated series & bring on the likes of man-bat & killer croc.

Katana? Really? I thought the cross-over with Mortal Kombat was just a one time deal.

(btw, I know MK's Kitana is spelled w/ an 'i' and technically not 'young'. I'm just being facetious)

are you kidding me? This sounds ABYSMAL! i can't believe anyone would even consider this interesting. The idea of a "gun toting" Alfred makes no sense at all and why would there be any sidekick other than Robin? I agree they must venture out and try new things but this sounds like an epic misfire... isn't Glen Murakami also responsible for "The Batman?"which was a very MEDIOCRE show... I know i sound jaded but can't see anyone else other than Paul Dini & Bruce Timm doing Batman as they know the character inside and out....

this might just be an outstanding show ,with a gun-toting Alfred Pennyworth sounds ass kicking ,some one needs to protect the manor,
the need to rethink the new side kick, focus on robin and
not just add him in,he should be part of the story not on
it

@Montross

I think they meant Katana, that samurai chick who appeared in Batman and the Outsider.

I think a 'gun toting Alfred' could be an interesting idea. There was once a rumor that Alfred was more than just a butler for the Waynes'. Apparently he is also former MI-6. Not saying they're going in that direction, but who knows.

Now they got my undivided attention, and a gun toting Alfred can be either very bad ass or very bad. About the cgi, well watching all those cgi cartoons on nickelodeon (I'm only watching Madagascar the others kind of lame) means we might get a clean and smooth animation. Im just hoping they will ditch the comedy thing and give us the dark and gritty batman we know and love

I don't want to hate on it before it gets a chance, but with "gun-toting Alfred" and Katana, it's not sounding very promising. As much as I'd like to see another Batman animated series, let's give Batman a break. If you don't break BTAS into 2 series, he's had 2 series since then for a total of 3 in the past 20 years. Superman has had 1. Why not try to get another one of those off the ground (heh. unintentional pun) before we do yet another Batman, especially one with this kind of creative direction? Maybe give the Flash his own series! That seems like it could be entertaining.

There are a slew of DC properties that can use an animated series; Like Nightwing, Flash, Who’s Who TAS, Updated Black Hawk Squadron, Atom, Hawkman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Captain Marvel, Auqaman, The Outsiders, Firestorm……..Hell, even Ambushbug could be interesting!I don’t think Batman needs another one.

Katana? Seriously? The only more unimaginative name is if she was actually called Ninja Girl.

"If you don't break BTAS into 2 series, he's had 2 series since then for a total of 3 in the past 20 years."

I think you do break up BTAS into 2 series, as Gotham Knights wasn't a part of BTAS, but a continuation/spinoff.A separate series. So, there's actually been 5 Batman series.BTAS, Gotham Knights, Batman Beyond, The Batman and Brave and the Bold.

When you actually break it down, you can really see how oversaturated the character has been.

BTAS 1992-1995
Gotham Knights 1997-1999
Batman Beyond 1999-2001
Justice League/Unlimited 2001-2006
The Batman 2004-2008
The Brave and the Bold 2008-2011
Young Justice 2011-????
Beware the Batman 2013-????

Since 1992, Batman has been on the air every year except for 1996.He's been a lead, co-lead or supporting character in 8 series. That's overkill.

DC Nation has some shorts with Doom Patrol, Plastic Man, Supergirl/Batgirl/Wonder Girl also. May not be full length animated shows but it is other characters being highlighted. Since Batman the Animated series the character has been a huge success to Warner Brothers in animation so it should be no surprise that he is used more than other characters.

Could they just stop. The only animated series in the past ten years to run more than 3 "seasons" was "The Batman" (of course THAT one). Pick a friggin’ style (preferably Timm inspired, but I'm open to others), AND STICK WITH IT! Be it "Justice League," "Batman Beyond," or even "Superman: The Animated Series," they all ended LONG before they ran out of stories or interest. Give us an animated series that is around long enough to explore the width and breadth of the DC universe. We just start to get into the world that they’ve created and POOF - they yank it away. Only to replace it with another version that “introduces” us to the same stock characters all over again.
I am NOT saying that it has to be aimed at us, the fan-boys of the world. But let ‘em run. Let these shows get into it. Let us see more than adventures featuring the Riddler4.0.
BTW, my youngest daughter loves the “Brave and the Bold.” It’s introduced her to characters she didn’t know about (Big Barda, Kamandi, Vixen and The Atom to name a few). She even started picking up some of my New 52 issue. Isn’t that part of the goal.
