Steven Spielberg Gives Updates On Next Jurassic Park And Indiana Jones Films

Steven Spielberg recently sat down and talked about the status of two of his upcoming much anticipated projects, continuations of the Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones film franchisees.

While chatting with Empire, Steven Spielberg was asked on the current status of the next Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park films. While not going in to much on Jurassic Park Spielberg did say it is currently being written and that the story for this one is better than the one for the third one. When answering about Indiana Jones, Spielberg deflected the question by saying the question should be directed at George Lucas. He also gives his thoughts about the last Indy film Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.

On Jurassic Park

"The screenplay is being written right now by Mark Protosevich. I'm hoping that will come out in the next couple of years. We have a good story. We have a better story for four than we had for three..."

On the Next Indiana Jones Movie:

"You have to ask George Lucas. George is in charge of breaking the stories. He's done it on all four movies. Whether I like the stories or not, George has broken all the stories. He is working on Indy V. We haven't gone to screenplay yet, but he's working on the story. I'll leave it to George to come up with a good story."

On What he thought of Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull:

I'm very happy with the movie. I always have been... I sympathize with people who didn't like the MacGuffin because I never liked the MacGuffin. George and I had big arguments about the MacGuffin. I didn't want these things to be either aliens or inter-dimensional beings. But I am loyal to my best friend. When he writes a story he believes in - even if I don't believe in it - I'm going to shoot the movie the way George envisaged it. I'll add my own touches, I'll bring my own cast in, I'll shoot the way I want to shoot it, but I will always defer to George as the storyteller of the Indy series. I will never fight him on that."

You can check out Spielberg's next film The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn on December 23, 2011 in the US.

I remember reading interviews with Ford and Spielberg about Indy 4 and that they weren't really set on the idea of aliens being involved but Lucas always gets his way - take a look at the new star wars movies - case in point.

I'd love to see a new jurassic park movie - especially if they bring a good story and a few of the original actors back maybe? The T-rex running around the city in number 2 was cool

What he is saying is that he will continue to make whatever Lucas sends his way because it will make him money and it has gotten him to the supreme high leader in Hollywood that he has become. (Not that George's work alone has done that, but Indy is a big part of both of their resumes.)

Just make a story in which the elderly Indy passes the torch to Lara Croft already!

Sheesh, hasn't everyone been saying the same thing about Indy 5 for years now? We should've had a script by now.
But I'm all for JP4.

@ Teabag I believe him, he did the same mistake with AI : as a great director/producer he must have known the movie should have ended with the kidbot in the ocean in front of the statue yet, out of respect for Kubrick he continued with that INSANE alien/bot ending.
I do not like he screwed up AI and Indy 4 but I do like he's loyal.

I always liked the storyline for Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. If we have already added aliens- why not get the Atlanteans involved.

CapA - Kubrick's AI ending was when the thousand years passed and the kid was much more human than anyone in that time.

Spielberg added the stupid cloning/dying thing.

I dont want just any Jurassic Park IV... I want that asanine pile of balls that they reviewed over at Ain't It Cool a few years back. You all know, the one with the dinosaurs holding guns. That script had HUGE stones and it would be criminal to not see such a vision finally realized.

@ Aklash - It doesn't change the fact that the most emotional point of the movie didn't became the ending of the film because of loyalty to Kubrick.

At least a second trilogy of Indy films, but take more creative control, away from Lucas. BTW Crystal Skull was better than Temple of Doom.
