With all the 3D conversions that are being done these days it only seems likely
The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy should get the same treatment. While there are no concrete plans yet, series actor Elijah Wood, who played Frodo Baggins, says that there is some talk that the conversion could happen. Said Wood
"I think it would be cool to see. There's talk of releasing a dimensionalised trilogy eventually. I'm okay with doing post-process 3D, as long as someone takes the time. What I'm upset about is when a movie doesn't have the budget and the time to devote to it and they're not fine-tuning the detail of that, because it can look really bad and cheap. But I know that they wouldn't dimensionalise it unless it was a super meticulous process." Wood pointed to movies like
Titanic and
Star Wars as reasons for The Rings Trilogy possibly making the conversion. Even taking a dig at Star Wars releasing Episode One first,
"I mean, Titanic's coming out in 3D now, and Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, which means we have to wait three movies to get to the [frick]ing good shit, it's unbelievable, I'm like, we have to wait three years for that? You're doing Episode I first? [frustrated squeal], what a bummer!" He then talked a little bit about getting back in to the character that is Frodo for the upcoming prequel to the Rings Trilogy,
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Wood said that he watched Fellowship of The Ring again to get back the sense of how the character spoke. Also said it brought back some good memories revisiting a four year chapter in his life. When talking about being on set for The Hobbit Wood recalls,
"It felt like a giant family reunion in a way. The weirdest thing was being on set, looking down at my feet and it just feeling oddly normal, like, 'Here we are, doing another scene at Bag End, 10 years later.'" This is no surprise that the powers that be would want to try and cash in even more money by converting The Lord Of The Rings to 3D.
