Hayley Atwell Would Love To Be In The Captain America Sequel

While sitting down for an interview, Haley Atwell talked a little bit about wanting to reprise her role as Peggy Carter in the sequel to Marvel's smash hit Captain America: The First Avenger. She also says she wasn't disappointed about not being in The Avengers.

Hayley Atwell took time out of her scheduel to sit down with the Press Association where she said it would be "Wonderful" to come back and play Peggy Carter a upcoming Captain America sequel. She also touched on not being in Cap's new adventure The Avengers, as well as what Joe Johnston did that made Peggy such a great character.

On returning on the Captain America sequel as Peggy Carter.

"I haven't heard anything. There have been talks... there's a possibility. I know they're either writing it now or they have written it by now, so I've moved on in another direction, but of course if they were to bring me back or ask if I was interested I'd definitely love to go back and revisit that role and develop her. That would be wonderful."

On Not Being In The Avengers:

"There are fans of the comic and of Peggy and Steve's relationship that would probably want to see more of that, but for me as an actor it frees me up from a franchise. It frees me up creatively from being too established as one particular role, which gives me more creative freedom."

On Joe Johnstons character development for Peggy:

"He wanted to bring an emotional truth or a gravitas to it, so that she wasn't just the totty and she wasn't also the stereotype hard a**e. He likes intelligent, strong women. He's not intimidated by that, and I think that's what gives Peggy more weight."

So with her not being in The Avengers it will be interesting to see if they do set the Cap sequel back in the 40's and explore their relationship a little further, or if they will keep it modern and introduce Peggy's niece Sharon. Be sure to check out Hayley Atwell in Captain America: The First Avenger in stores NOW!!!!

Funny, the two best love interests in a movie this year (IMO) was Natalie Portman (Thor) and Hayley Atwell (Captain America) yet in the films they didn't wear hardly any revealing outfits or try to be really sexy or something (I'm looking at you Transformers), which just proves you can have a great female character without photographing her in a perverted way.

I've had a crush on her so severe its depressing. But I think I'll refrain from the lewd comments.

Yeah, she should be in it. She should be in everything.

They could cast her as the next Batman, and I'd be all for it.

but how can she be in the sequel when it takes place in modern time when Cap first wakes up into the new world??

She could play her great-granddaughter.

Same way the actor who played Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman season 1, returned for season 2 as his son in the future.

of course she wants to.she lost every possible role that she was up for since then.and not just her,it seems to me that none of the other actors from captain have been able to do something good or big after

I hope they show Cap trying to figure out what happened to her in the Avengers movie. I don't want to see him forget her just like that.

She was really good in the first one, and that last scene as Cap hit the ice was very effective. I was expecting a bit of schmaltz there but they reigned it in.

Interesting this i'v noticed about the movie - anyone I know that is not a comic fan really didn't care for it, in fact most hated it!

I think a lot of CBM frequenters forget that comics (and their respective movies) are for kids too.

She would love to be in the sequel? Well, I (if not all of us) would love to see her again, too. They still had a date anyway...eh, okay. Sharon Carter looks like Peggy Carter much too, doesn't she? Think that can work. Whatever it is, she was great and I won't mind to see her for once more - or twice, or it won't even matter for how many times. :)

Elduce, we try to keep it PG13..ish. Some don't like the sexy pics but you have to admit they are not exactly offensive. I'm talking about really crude, graphic and often misogynistic comments. Big difference.

only if she's an old woman in the sequel,i would like to see captain america 2 set modern day with maybe flashbacks to the past.

Extended flashbacks are said to play a part in the sequels to fill in the gaps in the first film's timeline. The action montage in the film was supposed to have taken place over a period of years.

Ror: well said. Not a crybaby, but a gentleman. The homophobic comments on this site are also a bit over the top as well.

I'd actually like to see her as Sharon Carter. Peggy too if possible. I think that would be cool. Just hopefully not over the top

Hayley Atwell both Peggy and Sharon? Hell yeah, slap 70 more years on Peggy and modernize Sharon. Make them completely different yet very similar :)
AC1
AC1 - 11/25/2011, 10:04 AM
I reckon Peggy's dead in the present. The extended flashbacks would be the only way she could return (setting them up through Steve's encounters with Sharon would be a nice way to do it). I actually dont want to see Hayley as Sharon though, just because it's believable in a comic doesn't mean it'd be believable in a live-action film. Having Hayley return as Peggy's neice/granddaughter/great-granddaughter would just confuse the non-comic-reading audience. I still think Amanda Righetti's character (SHIELD agent) from the end of TFA should be Sharon Carter.

@ncreb Bucky's death irked me too. Not the circumstances, I thought that was fair enough. But the actual effect. It was one of the worst green-screen effects I've ever seen in a movie, let alone a big budget action film!
Jolt17
Jolt17 - 11/25/2011, 10:08 AM
Wait, you don't think it will work to put her in old lady's make-ups, do you? Because I think no matter how much the makeover is, it will never be enough to conceal the fact that she's a hottie. :)
Jolt17
Jolt17 - 11/25/2011, 10:10 AM
But anyway, I'm still with the modern day sequel...if she's going to return, it will be fair to feature her as Sharon Carter.

if they do what I think they should do, half WWII, half modern day, with Baron Zemo I & II, Peggy could be in the WWII scenes.
