Thanks to a heads up from Tim Burton.JP we have a new look at some toy concept art from the ever so famously doomed Superman Lives project. Not only does the concept art gives us another look at the Superman world Tim Burton was creating, but its gives some plot information as well. This includes what is being called the Eradicator suit that is designed to keep Superman's powers during the "period of darkness" that would have been in the film. Another piece of art that is featured is the Superman suit that would have been featured early on in the movie. Although it has some classic design elements in there, it is still a complete 180 from any other versions of the Superman costume.

Superman's Suit

Superman appears in this suit in the beginning of the movie, until his “death.”Reflects an updated” 90’s look” to Superman’s traditional suit. Maintains signature colors of the blue tights with the red cape. Key design elements include the all new, contemporized “S” shield, and the addition of chest armor and shoulder pads.

Superman's Tomb

Eradicator Suit Sperman

Special suit made from Eradicator technology that restores Superman’s powers during the darkness on Earth. Encloses Superman entirely to completely hide his identity; creates a powerful new silohuette for Superman. Suit magnifies all of Superman’s traditional powers. Sleek and aerodynamic metallic suit that pulses with light energy (light piping). Includes smooth armor accented with hieroglyphic designs.

Eradicator

Created by Jor-EI, Superman’s father, to be Superman’s “protector” and to rescue him from Death. Embodies the “newtechnology” and the “good” of Krypton. Is a power source that never runs out. Comes to “life” in the Fortress of Solitude where he re-activates Superman’s signature technology. Can take different forms depending on the situation and the specific need required to protect Superman. Appears in the movie in two different forms: 1)as a humanoid; 2)as “special suit” for energizing Superman during the all-encompassing darkness. As a humanoid, the Eradicator is majestic, wisely and imposing.
Has a heroic body, composed of pure energy, that is clothed is translucent robes.

“Recovery Suit” Superman

Superman wears this suit in the rejuvenation chamber in the Fortress of Solitude. Suit is laden with Kryptonian technology, including triangular-shaped energy ports for “plugging” Superman into the Eradicator technology (for restoration of his powers). Energy “circulates” visibly through the sculpted Kryptonian power matrix (use of light pipe and translucent areas on the figure). Likely to be dark metallic blue with light accent colors.

Superman Lives Brainiac’s Skull Ship Maquette

Once again these are just toy designs, but it does give us a little insight into the movie. With us knowing that Superman would have died in the film it looks like that when he came back was when Burton was going to change the suit to the mock ups we have already seen. As usual sound of your thoughts in the places below.

Superman's tomb looks pretty good (well, actually just fine, but among those all it looks good), but the rest...phew. Brainiac's ship is horrible, Eradicator suit Superman is a mess, and Superman himself looks...I don't know. The Nicholas Cage slight resemblance doesn't help.

Glad the project was doomed. If it was made, DC would need to hide from existence for a while (especially after Batman & Robin, too), I think.

The tomb looks really cool, glad it got shit canned though but I wonder slightly, would people have preffered this to Superman Returns?

To be honest Kevin Smith's script draft was really well written,The only thing it missed was the iconic suit. Tim Burton was the wrong choice for a Superman movie,I would choose Robert Zemekis in that time.

A literal interpretation of a skull ship! That is just horrible. A giant humanoid skull roaming space is crazy. Now Nero's ship in Star Trek was intimidating and menacing. That skull ship is ridiculous.
And the whole idea of incorporating neon pulsatng lights in the suit is awful.

The tomb is the best part, especially because it is the shape of the emblem.

Tim Burton, how I hate you for this. Thankfully this never saw the light of day. Superman Scissorhands would've been... Can't even find the words. Disgusting?

Toomb looks kinda cool tho. And would Brainiac ship look like an actual skull? For real, Burton?

I'm just glad David Goyer has written the new film, he understands what works in comicbook movies (ok most of the time, Blade Trinity sucked!!!)

While we're all laughing I'd like to remind you that Warner Bros were unsure of which direction to go way back when they were casting what turned out to be Christopher Reeve's era Superman. They were looking at casting Supe's as either Robert Redford or Burt Reynolds. OR go for 'comedy' and cast Woody (lock up your daughters) Allen. No sh*t!!!!! The 'joke' was that everyone in Metropolis KNEW that Clark Kent was Superman - except Clark Kent. Un-f*cking-believable!!!!

I love seeing this stuff. The more you can find the merrier I will be that this never got made. I imagine if this would have been made DC would still be recovering from the damage done to the Superman brand and the Siegel and Shuster trial would have been over already with them getting rights to Superman and then Marvel would have gotten Superman.

This movie could have been the downward spiral to terribly ruin DC and Warners for many many years.
