The upcoming Total Recall reboot, staring Colin Farrell, is hitting theaters this August. Today Sony Pictures have revealed the official plot synopsis for the film that will be directed by Len Wiseman. With the synopsis being revealed and it being less than eight months until the film premieres, expect to see the trailer soon. Read the synopsis below and check out the official image that was released a couple months ago.

"Total Recall" is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he's got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life - real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.

Total Recall stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston, Bill Nighy, John Cho, and will be released on August 3, 2012.

Its not a remake, its an ADAPTATION just as the stupid version starring Arnie was an ADAPTATION. This however seems to get the story done done right and won't look like its shot entirely in a studio like Arnie's crappy flick.

Does anyone here ever read anything other than comic books? This is a classic Philip K Dick short story, never meant to be anyone's action movie vehicle and sure's not meant to have the main character look like an Austrian bodybuilder!

Burn in hell with this shit!
@Ceejay, yeah right, but doesn't matter. Arnie's Total Recall is a classic, sorry. They just needed to change the goddamn name of this film - problems solved!

Reboot! I can deal with those. But remakes of classic films are harder to guage. any change people will flip out, but if it's too close to the original people will cry foul for lack of orginality.

No Richter. No movie.

However if its totally different than the original i could give it a chance. Maybe if they focus more on the "who am i" stuff. Make it more like a thriller than a action movie.

I'd rather have a movie set in the same universe, like Prometheus or the new Blade Runner (likely).

No need to reboot.

But who knows, maybe - just maybe - something good can come out of this.

I'll give it a shot, sound different that Arnold's version, I thin that's for the better. The one 1990 is my favorite Arnold flick. I agree with the need to change the title. If its a new adaptation of the story and not a remake of the movie, then why give it the same name as the first movie...?

They NEED Michael Ironside in the new one! Just because he's awesome...

So if this is a different adaptation of the Dick story than Arnold's movie, why not just give it a different name, given that the movie has a different title than the story? The Arnold film is a classic, and unless this one is VASTLY different, I don't really see why it needs to be made.

I dont know about this movie... The Arnold version is just so awesome! Its Arny in his prime with Ironside, mutants, mutants stripclubs, meaningless violence and mutant cab drivers ---- Hard to beat.

I wonder if they will have a sexy looking 3 boobed chick,or the creepy stomach alien baby...OPEN YOU MINDDDD,I like the 90's original,I agree with people its a classic, but those ridiculous face specialy effects of arnie bulling that tracker out of his nose was hilarious! Ill give this a watch if the trailer gets me excited

This is one that did not need a remake, classic Arnie films are still fantastic, even in this age.

And three boobs better be in it as people will want something to fap too, that and to debate about the merits and possibilities of it happening in real life.

Wait for the trailer. I saw rough footage at SDCC and I'm pretty sure this movie is going to blow people's minds. As for the Arnold Schwarzenegger version, I'm a fan of that, but let's be honest. The dialog is pretty cheesy, Arnold's acting is meh, and the effects are outdated. The plot is brilliant, but the presentation could be improved. This could easily be a better film all-around that tells the story for a new audience.

So... um... how exactly are people seeing this as being more faithful to the book? That synopsis could EASILY describe the Arnold version, and we know nothing else about it. I'll wait for the trailer to decide whether or not I wanna spend money on this, although as of right now, I do NOT see the point in making it. The first one worked just fine - no matter what the pinheads who hate EVERYTHING say.

This Does Not Need A Remake

I liked the original movie and watched it a lot, and to me this is unnecessary.

I'm going to give this a chance though. I mean, Bryan Cranston as Cohaggen is a great casting choice.

But going from seeing Arnold in the title role to Colin Farrell is something I'm not crazy about.

The Arnie total recall is awsum! I hope that everyone knows that there is no Mars the whole thing is an implant especially @Nubase. The movies twist is given away when hes going for the implant. Only movie i can think of that does it so early (but no one realises it!)

Like others have said this is an unnecessary remake. First one was classic. I have no desire to see this flick.
