Zack Snyder has stated that his two choices for Superman in his upcoming tale
Man Of Steel was narrowed down to Henry Cavill and Joe Manganiello. Cavill ultimately won the part with Snyder saying that he had the qualities that he was looking for in his Superman, but did say that Manganiello was great. Manganiello, while talking with
Aint it Cool News, says that the reason he is not Superman is because his schedule with
True Blood just simply wouldn't allow it. He also said the popular TV show is the reason he was even considered for
Man Of Steel.
"Well, I mean, the thing about Superman was it... I mean, I know the right one is out there for me... there wasn’t anything I could do with Superman. There was interest from every single possible angle on that project, and the reason they were interested was because of TRUE BLOOD. From the director, to casting, to the producers involved, it was all because of TRUE BLOOD, that was why I was in the running. And at the end of the day, it was TRUE BLOOD’s schedule that kept me from doing it. There’s just no human way possible I could be in two places at once when I’m contracted to be on TRUE BLOOD," he said. Citing that he was excited to explore why a baby from another planet would choose to fight for another race, and being able to dive into Superman being an alone alien only added to his disappointment that he didn't get the chance to play The Big Blue Boy Scout. He also went on to say that he
"knows the comic books really well," and he thinks he would have brought a fresh take on the character to the table.
With Christopher Nolan's Batman series ending this July Warner Brothers is looking to reboot the franchise so that The Dark Knight can be apart of their Justice League. Manganiello was asked if anticipated being brought in for the eventual reboot where he said,
"From your mouth to God’s ears, man. I mean of course, I grew up, as a kid, I read comic books, and I watched every single comic book movie that ever... You know, I was a big sci-fi fan, I was just that kid. I’m a fanboy at heart. So, yeah, that is on my radar." He went on to say that he thinks his back round in classical theater plus his dedication to working out has helped him out tremendously in his career to be able to play a super hero.
