Chris Nolan Plays Coy When Asked About Joseph Gordon-Levitt Appearing In MAN OF STEEL

A while ago a rumor was floating around that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will have a cameo in the upcoming Zack Snyder Superman Film Man of Steel, and then JGL's reps shot it down. Well, now Christopher Nolan is keeping it alive by saying nothing at all.

It's the rumor that wont die. A couple weeks back, a rumor started that Man of Steel was looking to enlist the help of The Dark Knight trilogy's surprise ending, by using a Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as Batman, cameo in the film. This was later debunked by Gordon-Levitt's reps. The rumor has found some new legs, however, from an unlikely source, Christopher Nolan. During the Museum of the Moving Image's salute to Hugh Jackman Frank DiGiacomo of Movieline caught up with Nolan and asked him about the possible Joseph Gordon-Levitt, or any Batman cameo, happening in Man of Steel. "I can't talk about that. You know that," Nolan said with a big smile.

This in no way shape or form confirms that this is true, however, it is a little odd that Nolan didn't squash the rumor once and for all. As most know at the end of The Dark Knight Rises, John "Robin" Blake finds the Batcave, and we are led to believe that he will take up the mantel of The Bat. Warner Brother could be looking to connect Batman to their Justice League movie with out having to go through the process of rebooting, although this seems unlikely. Until official word has come out make sure to keep taking this rumor with a huge grain of salt.

sorry but it would be stupid for them to have a made up character John Blake to be Batman in the JLA movie. we been waiting for a JLA movie for years with the true Batman and thats Bruce Wayne.

imagine Avengers without Tony Stark as Iron Man and have another character who never been in the comics taking the mantle.

I don't get all the bitching and crying. These are films not comic books. People don't stay the same age after 70 years like in the comic world. Eventually actors will age and roles will have to be changed. RDJ isn't going to be Iron Man forever and if Marvel is gonna keep the same universe he will either be killed or retire and someone else will be Iron Man.

I'll be immensely disappointed if John Blake is the JL movie's Batman. Like jazzman says, we've been waiting for a JL movie for a long time, and not having Bruce Wayne (the classic Batman) be the Caped Crusader in the movie isn't a great idea.

why couldnt Nolan just made this character be Dick Grayson in TDKR. they could of hinted that John Blake was a false name all along and hes real name is Dick Grayson.

Lets put this to bed right now, JGL said on Twitter that he will not be appearing in JL as Batman so why would he appear in MOS.

films based on comic book characters. RDJ is an actor not a comic book character like Tony Stark. RDJ could get replace by a different actor but Tony Stark cant be replace. if someone take over as Iron Man it would be Rhody not a made up character who aint in the comics.

It's so much better to say "I can't say" no matter what, so often "No" means "No" and "I can't say" means "yes". Nolan is good at keeping things under wraps. We've seen next to nothing of MoS, I doubt he'd throw something like that out there.

That'd really ruin both movie series' for me. It's been abundantly clear throughout the Dark Knight Trilogy that everything is very much grounded in reality, and it represents a form of pseudo-realism in which there are no beings with superpowers, just ordinary men and women who hone their bodies and/or minds to achieve their goals, like Bruce Wayne, Selina Kyle, Bane, Ra's Al Ghul, Scarecrow, etc. For that integrity to suddenly be thrown away so that Warner Bros can rush out a Justice League movie to compete with The Avengers? It'd be a new low, even worse than that sorry excuse for a Green Lantern movie.

The Dark Knight trilogy should be left to its own devices as a self contained universe, not part of something bigger. I wouldn't mind them continuing the series with JGL as Batman in a similar vein to The Bourne Legacy, perhaps with Chris Nolan returning as a producer, his brother writing it, and some other talented director. That way, audiences get more Batman, but also a break from Bruce Wayne and the likes of the Joker (obviously they won't replace Ledger in this series), plus then we get more Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon! And Alfred can be a go-between for Bruce and John Blake.

I seriously dont think John Blake would last five minutes in a fight against SuperCavill, Darkseid or even Wonder Woman unless they make HUGE changes to his character.

It's all about buzz and publicity. I have a hard time seeing John Blake as Batman in future DCU films. Nolan is just trying to keep people talking about MoS. the more buzz, the better.

they going to keep Iron Man for awhile cause the character is making them money. he is the poster boy of the Avengers.

@jazzman they chose not to call him Dick Grayson because he has elements of other Robins too, he's like a mixture of a lot of them (He's an orphan, like most of them, he's a cop like Dick Grayson was at some point in the comics, he's a 'hot head' like Jason Todd and Damien Wayne, he's a good enough detective to figure out Bruce Wayne is Batman like Tim Drake did, and given the storyline involves him helping Batman when he comes out of retirement, he even has elements of Carrie Kelly from Dark Knight Returns in him too). That's why they chose to make his legal name Robin; it was an incredibly cheesy move, but it was a way to make sure the audience got the point, and it even references an idea Tim Burton had for his first Batman movie when he was going to introduce a kid named Robin who'd become a helper to Batman.

i know that but it would be silly if John Blake been Batman in the JLA movie. we been wait for Bruce as Batman in the JLA movie for years.

they might aswell had that kid Jason in Superman Returns to become the next Superman and introduce him in a JLA movie.

imagine John Blake as Batman and Jason Kent as Superman in JLA lol

we all KNOW that nolan's movies are based on HYPE,
the more hype he, the studio, his fans or anything or anyone else creates for his films, the better....
that worked just great for tdk, inception and tdkr....

too bad this it's been his trending, as for bat movies; BB is the best in the trilogy but IMHO his best movies were Memento & The Prestige, those were just GREAT !!!!

@CaptainAmerica Kevin Feige has said that when the time comes that Robert Downey Jr. is too old to play Tony Stark, they will bring in a new actor to continue the role like they do in the James Bond movies, and that would be the rule for all the other Marvel characters too. In response to that, RDJ said that he'd keep playing Tony Stark for as long as possible and as long as the scripts are good he'll keep coming back, and that he'd hate for someone else to play the character. In fact, I'm sure he's said at some point he'd be happy to keep playing Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes. Having said that, RDJ unfortunately doesn't have a choice in Tony Stark's fate if he ends up leaving the franchise - that's up to Feige and Marvel, and by the sounds of it they're prepared to replace him with a new actor, but aren't going to replace the character.

@jazzman oh no, I completely agree with you, I was just explaining why they didn't name him Dick Grayson. I still think it's way too soon to even think about a Justice League movie, and the best thing WB can do right now is leave quite a few years for the dust to settle on Nolan's trilogy before they even think of rebooting Batman, let alone using the character in the Justice League, or else a lot of people will get tired of the character (especially if the new version is too soon after Rises).

My suggestion about John Blake returning was as a continuation of just Nolan's Batman films and as a way of giving people their Batman fix without overusing Bruce Wayne, so that when it is rebooted Bruce Wayne seems like a new, interesting character again and if they used him in a Justice League movie there'd be less comparisons to Bale's performance. It's a way of differentiating the two types of Bruce Wayne/Batman for the general audiences.

I'd like to see a continuation trilogy of Nolan's films, with JGL returning as John Blake/Batman, Jonathan Nolan writing, Chris Nolan producing and someone like Sam Mendes directing (or even Wally Pfister, depending on how his directorial debut goes, since he may be closer to Nolan's style). People get more Batman, and a break from Bruce Wayne, then when the reboot comes around people are excited for Bruce Wayne becoming Batman again.

i myself think jgl is amazing but hes not batman and never will be don't get me wrong if you give him some longer hair and escrima sticks id love to see him become a nightwing in the new dc shared universe and that sort of link could suggest that the nolanverse is part of the cinamatic multiverse
but i have to agree with the maine consensus armie hammer for batman
as for man of steel the trailer was amazing and if zack and chris continue to oversee dc film after it i could see dc steeling marvels flame

Joseph Gordon Levitt as Det. John Blake = Agent Phil Coulson

Like the character of Phil Coulson in The Avengers, I think the Det. John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) can play a similar role linking all DC characters, and like the character of Phil Coulson become the reason to create the Justice League, but unlike Joss Whedon Avengers not seeking "revenge" for their fallen comrade, but "Justice" as originally born this superhero team

Tony Todd as J'onn J'onzz/Martian ManHunter
