David Goyer Talks BLADE Reboot, JGL in JUSTICE LEAGUE, And His MAGNETO Script

While promoting his new series on Starz, Da Vinci’s Demons, David Goyer talked about the likelihood of a Blade reboot, says barley anything about whether Joseph Gordon-Levitt will appear in Justice League, and his work on a Magneto script that ultimately found its way into X-Men: First Class.

David Goyer is riding pretty high these days. This summer The Dark Knight Trilogy came to a close, which he helped bring to the big screen, and he is currently developing a new series for Starz titled Da Vinci's Demons. While promoting the series he was asked by Crave Online if he thinks Blade will be rebooted since the rights are back at Marvel. "“I do. Now that Marvel/Disney have recaptured the rights, I’m sure it will be [remade]. They made too much money on that character to not reboot him at some point,” he said. When asked if he thought Blade not being Disney enough should stop it from being made. Goyer responded, "I mean, look, between merchandise and what not, that little character generated almost a billion dollars.” He also went on to squash any hope of seeing another Blade movie with Wesley Snipes as the title character by saying that there is too much water under the bridge.

Goyer was also asked about the rumor that wont die as well, the possibility of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as Batman, appearing in Justice League. Like his good friend Nolan, Goyer played it close to the vest saying, “I can absolutely not answer that question. Sorry." Adding some skepticism to this rumor is the bit of new info that just surfaced that JGL is one of the front runners for Star-Lord in James Gunn's Guardians of The Galaxy. While this wouldn't completely put down the rumor, the likely hood of him devoting time to two huge franchises like this is not very big.

Before X-Men: First Class came out, Goyer was working on a script for a solo Magneto movie. While this movie never saw the light of day, he said that First Class took some of the elements for Erik's back story from his script. "It did. It did. It was sort of that but expanded. I was a little bummed. They definitely took some elements from our script," he explained with a laugh. Goyer's next movie endeavor Man of Steel will hit theaters on June 14th.

Bruce needs to be Batman in a JL movie

The X-Men movies have denied writing credits to both David S. Goyer and Joss Whedon. The two guys behind the two movies that went head to head last year, generating one of the hottest flame wars between fans ever.
O don't know why, but I find that funny.

Sorry to be picky, but some of these articles seem very rushed lately. It should be "likelihood", not "likely hood". Also "close to his chest", not "close to the vest". Also Blade is spelled as Balde. Why not take a bit more time? Does it really matter is someone else beats you to this less-than-amazing scoop?

I enjoyed Rises for what it was but no JGL!
He fulfilled his purpose, besides, for the first proper DC team up they need the real World's Finest, not Superman and some guy who is a poor man's Robin!

Now, lets see how we have am article for every black actor who wants to be the rebooted Blade, as we did for The Black Panther.

Or a fancast. I can't imagine who could do as good as Snipes. Snipes IS Blade imo.

I doubt John/Robin Blake will appear in a Justice League film. I liked Nolan's Batman trilogy but I think it should just end there. Use a new actor for Batman who fits into a DCCU with magic, super powers, aliens, mutants etc

@Nomis Yea, Marvel had the rights back to Blade since 2011.

It's Goyers fault that they're problems between him & Snipes(Snipes get a little blame too).

As disappointed as I am about the prospect of JGL appearing in the Justice League movie, I'm at least glad they're doing something towards this movie. If Goyer had responded with "I don't know" or "Nothing has been discussed" then it would be apparent Warner Bros have made no attempt to push this movie into production, but it would seem Warner Bros are at least weighing up their options and possibly coming to a close conclusion.
Hearing that he "absolutely cannot answer the question" could indicate that they are close to making and releasing their casting decisions. Although I could be way off base giving Warner Bros too much credit :P

woodsy100@ Don't mean to be picky, but aren't vests worn on chests?
ManofSuperguy@ You can have your cake and eat it. As long as Nolan doesn't direct the Justice League film, then you can stil say that the Nolanverse does not incorporate that film. But that doesn't mean that the Nolan films can't be used as jumping on points for a Justice League film.
Nomis/ fettastic@ I think it would be better to have him go a bit AzBats and then have Bruce come back to take him down and reclaim the mantle of the Bat. It'd make sense with the psychology of John Blake. Especially with that moment where he accidentally shoots that guy. That could be the more Jason Todd side of him coming out.

Hell I thought X-Men first class was Magneto orgin story because the movie was clearly about him Not Professor X and the X-Men. As for Marvel to rebooting Blade its clear that at some point Marvel going to have expand beyond there mainstream characters in the Universe if they want to keep making movies

Goyer is a CHITTY Director.

He directed BLADE 3!

He can't be the Head director of any movie.

He has connections to get these jobs but he's TERRIBLE.

Del Toro nicely blasted him in the behind the scenes dvd extra of Blade 2.

I'm tell you guys, You don't want this man as the Head director. His casting is even dreadful.

He gets over as a SCREEN WRITER and at best "co director".

If he helms JL as the Head Director then DC fanboys are SCREWED! LMAO!

(ANd I'm more of a Marvel fan by the way)

If JGL plays Bruce Wayne, I'm fine with that. He can play a version of Bruce Wayne for all I care. But as much as I support the whole "John Blake as Batman" idea that Nolan created, the actual Bruce Wayne needs to be in the Justice League. That would be like Marvel finally reacquiring the rights to Spider-Man, and then putting Miles Morales Ultimate Spidey into the Avengers.

Heresy I tell you, heresy

JGL won't be involved in the JLA film. Nolan's BATMAN-trilogy is to secured to have some fantastical shit going on there. And it would diminish the ending of TDKR, because Bruce'll have to return.

FriendlyJoshFest@ You know that second pic is Michael Keaton, right?
NubaX@ Bad at casting? Like making stars out of Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel. That was awesoem casting and they had great chemistry. And if you read the article, there is nothing in there about David Goyer directing the Justice League. I really don't think he's a director of that caliber. Nobody said that.

DukeAcureds - 1/7/2013, 11:59 AM
Spider@ Not bad. I'd be cool with that.
KnightofSteel@ I don't remember him saying that Nolan should direct. Nolan's Batman is over, but the Justice League franchise has just begun. Get over it. Or are you saying that the Nolan trilogy was so bad that we need a reboot?

Bruce Wayne has to be Batman. Only exception would be if JGL attempted to be batman, got his ass kicked, and Bale reclaimed the role. Like Azrael

It is the law of nature, the natural order of things for a Justice League movie, if it's ever made, to completely and utterly suck all kinds of a$$ because, unlike Marvel's Avengers, the movie isn't getting done because they have a good script, but because the Warner f¨ckers want to make some bucks... It's life. When you do something for the wrong reasons, it will surely blow up in your face, and THAT is what'll happen with a JLA movie. FACT.
