Hope For HELLBOY 3 Dying After Lack Of Financial Backing

A while ago Guillermo del Toro said that he was hoping to complete his Hellboy trilogy after a make a wish request by Ron Pearlman renewed interest in the project. However, due to no one wanting to back the film financially its not looking like the film will get made.

Ever since Hellboy 2 came out fans have been clamoring for a third film to complete the trilogy, but work on a third one never manifested. Ron Pearlman renewed the faith that it might get done though when he put on the Hellboy make up for a Make-A-Wish project. That gesture inspired director Guillermo del Toro to get on the horn and see if something can be done to get the project going. However, we might have just been dealt a crushing blow when del Torro told the folks at Latino Review the following, "Well, a couple of weeks ago or months ago, I did make a couple of phone calls to test, to gage the possibility of doing that because it’s a big movie. There’s no takers for a movie of that size. The two movies made their money back and a little bit. They were financially good, but one was fifty and the other one was eighty, eighty five. This is a hundred and forty. So no one wants to do that leap, from the financial side. So unless we find a way to do the mother of all kick starters." Both del Torro, as well as Selma Blair voiced their desire to do the film, but it looks like with out any investment company will to take a leap of faith the project will stay grounded. Y'know i like Guillermo DT for his personality an interviews but i really dont see the love for him on this site. It seems like hes a frnt runner for every fan voted project but what has he done thats been THAT great. HB was good, HB 2 was visually cool but not very interesting, and Pacific Rim looks... well lets just say i have very low expectations. What do people like so much about him, im curious to know cuz i dont really get it.

In other words, Universal Studios would rather produce fluff chick projects instead of working with him finishing off the franchise in the Studio that Monsters built. Jerks.

I have to side w/ IM. I didn't realize Del Toro made the first, but became a huge fan of his after Pan's Labyrinth and part 2 put me to sleep, and I was chomping at the bit to see it for months.

What the F*ck? How the heck can studios pass on one of the best comic adaptation franchises in the industry? There are countless comic book flicks out there getting done that have no business on the big screen, and yet no one will take a chance on a sure thing? A sad day indeed.

@Ha1frican - I've pretty much liked Del Toro since I saw Cronos and then I saw Blade 2 a thought he done a good job but the moment I saw Hellboy and especially Pan's Labyrinth I was hooked to his work. His love for fantasy and the somewhat supernatural makes him do some things that pull you right into the story he's trying to tell.

When I heard Kenneth Branagh wasn't doing Thor: TDW Del Toro was my first choice (Still happy about Alan Taylor) because I would have loved to see what he would have done with the Dark Elves and the other realms, because I know he would have showed us something truly awesome but scary at the sometime.

Don't worry , Levi@, It'll happen eventually. He just needs to make a few more high profile films. Raise his own value. Pacific Rim'll do it.
So that makes three vanity projects that Del Toro wants to one day make; At the Mountains of Madness, Frankenstein and now Hellboy 3.
Maybe this means his next flick will be Dark Universe? If they can get the script going fast enough. Otherwise, it'll probably be Haunted Mansion.
Dark Universe ftw!

@Godzillafart if we got a new director for three i could see them playing around with other stories. i don't really mind having a new director, but i hope Del toro gets the funding he needs. i really want to see a third hell boy movie. heck he can even be a creative consultant or assistant director right?

GhostKILLERgx7@ No way, duder. It's either GDT or nothing. A Hellboy 3 that is not directed by GDT? No fvcking way.
Hope not, anyway.

The saddest part is that we will get 5 movie resident evil movies with characters that go about as deep as a puddle.

Hellboy has one heck of an interesting world to explore. It's just hard to explore it within the cash constraights that are needed.

WHAT THE [frick] ARE YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT?!?! Guillermo is [frick]ing awesome! Blade 2 was great. The Hellboy movies were awesome. Cronos, Devil's Backbone were sick. Pacific Rim is just a culmination of everything he's done. He deserves the hype that he gets.

I lost faith for the third movie the moment when HB found out that Liz is going to have twins. Thats a great way to ruin the future of these movies.

Yeah Pacific Rim looks awesome! After that Del Toro should try again with At The Mountains of Madness.
Im dying to see that on the big screen.

So, there's money for Ghost Rider and crappy cbms, but not Hellboy? And there's money for a poor man's version of Evangelion? Let's be honest, it looks like he's not interested in doing it. He'll be pursuing At the mountains of madness after Pacific Rim comes out. He won't do HB3. Let someone else take the reins, using Mignola's art and storylines for inspiration.

That sums up alla I hate about Hollywood in one question.
