Michael Rooker Joins The Cast Of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

The Walking Dead's Michael Rooker was campaigning for a while to play Rocket Raccoon in the upcoming Marvel film Guardians of The Galaxy. While he didn't land that role, Rooker has joined the film. Click here to see who he will be playing.

By WaylonJones - Apr 16, 2013 11:04 AM EST

As most remember, Michael Rooker threw his name in to play Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of The Galaxy. Now it looks as if James Gunn was listening, but he wont be providing the voice to Rocket Racoon. According to Deadline Rooker will join the film, but as Yondu, a game hunter of a primitive tribe native to Centauri IV.

Yondu is a part of Zatoan tribe who's home, Centauri IV, was the firs planet to be colonized other that Earth. Yondu teams up with the Guardians of The Galaxy as one of it's founding members. Whether or not he will be a founding member in the film is still up in the air. He also uses a five foot bow as his weapon.

Rooker joins Chris Pratt and Dave Batista on the movie. Pratt, who was the first major cast member announced, will be playing Peter Quill/Star Lord, while Batista will be playing Draxx The Destroyer. Zoe Saldana has also been rumored to be attached to the film as Gamora. For the latest on the film as it happens, make sure to check back here at CBM.

@darkspark I think it has to do largely with James Gunn wanting to use his friend Rooker in the franchise.

Now only if we have some villian news and news on whether that girl from Star Trek signed as Gamora. This has to be amongst the weirdest cast ever for a film. Here's to hoping that it doesnt bomb

Too many weird coloured aliens (Green and Blue is not traditional film colours)

And I got this from wiki, worth a laugh considering the actor cast

Yondu's right hand was replaced for a time by a bionic device called a weapons concealment appendage, a metal cup replacing his right hand.[9] Thus, he could no longer practice archery nor perform functions requiring him to grasp with his right hand.

@63, Dude my mind is being [frick]ed repeatedly by goblins... Least that's how it feels. Rooker is gonna own the role! Yondu was the best of the original. He's up there with Star Hawk and Vance Astro. LONG LIVE YONDU !!!!!

@Weewee - Indeed, he was, dude. He was one of the Guardians back in the late 70's - early 80's. Here:

Yondu was one of the original Guardians on the team that preceded Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora and co. Didn't think they were going to feature in Gunn's film. Hope this means Vance Astro is in it.
TheAmazingSpidey63
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 4/16/2013, 11:38 AM
@Nova - Man, I [frick]ing hope we get an appearance from Vance, or at least a damn cameo/reference. Hell, I'd like to see if Gunn can pull off the feat of bringing in the WHOLE team of the old GotG. [frick]ing Vance Astro, Yondu, Hollywood, [frick]ing Charlie-27, Aleta, and Nikki. If Gunn can do that and make it work well into the film.....

;)

All of this is pointing to Korvac, not Thanos, as the primary antagonist in the film. Thanos can be the dude behind the scenes pull his strings, but Korvac and the Badoon seem to be the baddies if Yondu is involved.

How winning is Marvel right now?

I don't know. Let me count the ways.

Iron Man 3 - looks awesome in trailers.
Thor: Dark World - haven't seen enough.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier - great word of mouth about script and terrific casting.
GOTG: Need more information.

@Rhinoman - I agree with the abundance of odd skin colors, but I'm sure that they'll tone that down for the film. In a comic, you need bright colors and garish costumes so you can tell who is who on a 2" x 2" panel. Film doesn't have that same need.
