J.R. Ramirez To Play 'Wildcat' In Season Three Of ARROW; 'Black Canary' On The Way?

Arrow has chosen J.R. Ramirez (Power) to play Wildcat in season three of The CW series, and based on the official description of his character, it sounds as if we should expect to see him training Laurel Lance - the future Black Canary - just like in the comics...

Deadline reports that J.R. Ramirez has joined the cast of season three of Arrow as Ted "Wildcat" Grant. It was initially revealed at this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con that the character would join the series, but there was no mention of who would be playing him. It's said that the role of Wildcat will be a recurring one. In the comics, he was a member of the Justice Society of America and served as both a mentor and trainer to the Black Canary. The description for this version states that, "In Arrow, Grant will be a former boxer who now runs a gym for underprivileged youth. A man with a mysterious past, he will play a pivotal role in Laurel Lance’s arc this season." It sounds an awful lot like we'll see him training Laurel then (played by Katie Cassidy), so her becoming Black Canary could happen sooner than expected. What do you think?

He does seems young... Maybe he's the second Wildcat. And his father could be Ted Grant and be played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan!

Wildcat needs to look rough, like he has seen it all, done it all. This guy just doesn't look the part. Nothing against him, he just doesn't. The guy who played The Comedian in Watchmen would have been perfect.

@isee I hope you're right. I forgot he had a hispanic (I think) son in the comics.

I just hope that DC doesn't mind casting a Flash and Green Arrow for the cinematic universe just because they're on TV. The same goes for TV. I hope they can use Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.

I really hopeits Wilcat's son and not the original. They probably cast a younger guy so he could have a relationship with laurel.

Imo, one of the best things about smallville was how they portrayed the classic JSA in the flashbacks. That Ted Grant was perfect!

I really hope Laurel doesn't become Black Widow, as much as the show tries she always ends up like Arrow's own Lana Lang. Sara is the much better character

But as for the casting and the inclusion of Wildcat, it sounds cool. Looking forward to seeing how Arrow begins to flesh out it's own roster of superheroes that can (eventually) work together

It's Ted Grant. They said so at the panel, but instead of just being a mentor, he's gonna be a love interest, BECAUSE IT'S THE CW. Another love triangle. -_-

@CherryBomb, I agree. Im really looking forward to Laurel's transformation into Black Canary.
We have seen hints of her kicking ass a bit and knowing some self defence in earlier episodes but the opponents she was fighting always seemed to eventually get the upper hand.
Its time for her to start taking some villains down and out now!

I always envisioned Randy "The Natural" Couture as Wildcat. I think he would fit the role perfectly if Wildcat were in a DC film.

I really don't want to see laurel as black canary. Sarah is so much better. She doesn't have the body.

I actually love Wildcat, so it works for me. I wonder if they'll have Sandman and the other Justice Society players.
