Joaquin Phoenix Now Said To Be In "Final Talks" To Play DOCTOR STRANGE
It was revealed during last month's San Diego Comic-Con that Joaquin Phoenix (Her) was being eyed by Marvel for the lead role in Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange. Well, a new report claims that the actor has entered final talks and should soon be officially announced...
While Boardwalk Empire star Jack Huston was recently said to be in the running to play Doctor Strange for Marvel Studios, Joaquin Phoenix has again emerged as the frontrunner and is said to be very close to closing the deal. According to Collider, he should sign the contract with the studio any day now and the reason it's taken so long (reports of him boarding the Scott Derrickson helmed project surfaced over a month ago) is because of his desire to have the freedom to continue starring in movies outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with filmmakers like Paul Thomas Anderson and Spike Jonze (his roles in The Master and Her earned him serious awards attention). The site believes that we'll get official confirmation from Marvel any day now, and the addition of the Academy Award nominated actor to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is well worth getting excited over, wouldn't you say? Of course, some are already claiming that they've jumped the gun with this report, so we'll have to wait and see! Share your thoughts in the usual place!
