COMICS: Wolverine Is Dead, Long Live...Spider-Man?! He's About To Join The X-MEN!

With Wolverine set to meet his maker, what will become of Wolverine and the X-Men? Well, whether his former teammates like it or not, Logan's last wish was for Peter Parker to take his place on the team, so get ready to see Spidey as a member of Marvel's Merry Mutants...

ComicBook.com have revealed that Wolverine and the X-Men will be relaunched as Spider-Man and the X-Men this December from the creative team of  writer Elliot Kalan and artist Marco Failla. Spidey will be the school's new guidance counselor, but not everyone is happy about the latest addition to the Jean Grey School. "He’s not a mutant, and though he may be a friend of the X-Men, he’s not a member of the family," Kalan told the site about how the rest of the X-Men feel in regards to Wolverine wanting Spider-Man to join the team in his absence. The writer adds: "I want to spotlight some of the newer X-men students who have been around for a little while but haven't gotten all of the attention I think they've deserved. The stars of this book are Spider-Man and his class of students. We'll see many of the other X-Men, but characters like Storm and Beast get plenty of attention." His class will apparently include No-Girl, Rockslide, Glob Herman, Ernst, Hellion, Shark Girl, and Eye Boy. How do you guys feel about this latest plot development?

Just wish Spidey and Xmen were part of Marvel Studios. Realy bothers me they're not.

Bahahaha.

What happened to Marvel trying to lessen the exposure of the characters who's movie rights are with other studios?

Where's the conspiracy now?

X-Men needs to stay at Fox. They're doing a fantastic job. With only 2 bad movies out of 7...Their track record is just as good as the MCU, better than Sony (2 good, being TASM1 and 2)out of 7 movies), and shits on WB(Dark Knight Trilogy and '89 Batman being the only gems)

Peter must be super popular. Wasn't Johnny Storm's last wish for Peter to take his place on the Fantastic Four? Maybe Nick Fury's last will will be for Peter to be the next Director of SHIELD. Wouldn't surprise me at this rate.

@monstersquad

Spiderman, agreed.

No to X-Men. While some elements might be more comic faithful, the stories would definitely be neutered. I want dark themes and drama to be explored as they were in First Class, The Wolverine, and Days of Future Past.

Marvel has yet to convince me they can make something without a joke every minute.

I don't remember Cap: TFA having much for jokes at all...and TWS was quite serious (some good one-liners, though)

Don't be so happy, people now are going to say that they are replacing X-men with Spidey because they have a good relationship with Sony

Yeeeaah agreed with until you made no mention of Raimi's Spiderman and called TASM better. Spiderman 2 is still one of the best CBMs.

agreed. You're right.

Spider-man should be part of this universe with the AVengers, etc.

So...this is the beginning of Marvel segregating their Fox owned properties from their Marvel Studios properties. This actually looks like it could be good. It will be like that Avengers Academy issue where Spidey was subbing mixed with Wolverine and the X-Men.

@MercwithMouth Fox doesn't make X-Men movies. They make Wolverine movies featuring X-men. They kill Cyclops and make his little brother a Firxt Class character. They can't even get the Phoenix Force right. And all that black leather...

I [frick]ing hate TASM 1 and I found TASM 2 mildly enjoyable. Gets way too much hate I think. Still, I would prefer to see Spider-Man done at Marvel Studios and with the Avengers. At least Marvel has a competent plan, even if it doesn't make good movies half the time.

SOny should be banned for having anything to do with the joke of green goblins we get. Seriously though, to me, it's the worst costume design in both spiderman movies to date. Dafoe's was the weird green bull crap thing and then in TASM 2....we got another dumb ass design. Whoever "ok'd" those designs needs a shovel to the face.

I guess you didn't notice the giant label in the title that says COMICS, hence that is what's up for discussion.

But whatever, keep talking about the films. I don't give a damn.
Demiurge

In terms of story, it doesn't make any sense. Someone else should've stepped up, like Beast for example.
This is purely for financial reasons. Spidey will bring his legion of fans to the book and hopefully help help it sell a few tens of thousands of issues a month.
I probably won't be reading it, though. Unless it's off the charts good.

@MonsterSquad35 woops, didn't see your response while I was adjusting my post. Yeah. While everyone was focused on Captain America and Iron Man sending heroes to slap each other silly, Annihilus was turning Galactus into a cosmic bomb set to annihilate all life in the universe. Whole planets were destroyed in the intergalactic war.

Personally I like it! Yeah it's a gimmick, but I like it! Just like I liked him joining the Avengers, and then the FF (Future Foundation). He's kind of everyone's brother. He knows just about every, hero, villain and wanna-be. And he's made some really god connections with people over the years like Johnny, and Logan, and more. So it's actually not surprising that Logan would want him to join the X-men, and bring a little humanity and humility to the team.

As for theSPidey movies, Raimi's best was Spidey 2. Spider-Man gets a lil less love every time I watch it. The Raimi franchise did something fundamentally wrong with the character that is being addressed very well in Webb's film, and that's Peter's sense of humor. There were a few humorous moments but for the most part it was "Oh woe is me! It's such a burden to be Spider-Man!" and although Peter has moments like that in the comics for the most part he loves it! The ASM franchise has fully embraced that. Despite it's faults ASM2 felt the most like the actual comics of any SPider-Man film do to the tone, story, and relationships. No it wasn't all fun and games, but there were still lighter moments. And all the relationships in the movie are well done. Sure the villains need a bit more fleshing out, but hey we're getting a Sininster 6 flick for that.
