Geoff Johns Comments (Very) Briefly On The Chances Of A GREEN LANTERN Reboot

Rumour has it Green Lantern will appear in both Justice League and his own movie alongside The Flash. We've yet to hear anything more about this, but at a recent Q&A to promote the release of the Forever Evil hardcover, John was quizzed about whether a reboot is in the works...

By rights, 2011's Green Lantern should have kicked off a DC Cinematic Universe the same way that Iron Man did for the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2008. Unfortunately, the divisive movie was not a box office success - mainly because the budget spiralled out of control - and we've seen nothing of Hal Jordan since. At a recent Los Angeles Q&A for the release of Forever Evil, Comic Book Resources quote comic book and television writer and DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns as saying the following about the possibility of a Green Lantern reboot. "There's always talk of everything," he told one fan at the event, before adding: "I can't talk about anything else."

We may be clutching at straws here, but there's been "talk" of rebooting the franchise? That could be a good sign for fans of the character, and while Warner Bros. and DC Comics likely have a number of movies they're considering, it's nice to know that Green Lantern could be among them. As for what it is about Hal Jordan that so appeals to the writer, Johns added: "Fear is such an anchor on everybody. To explore a superhero that just takes fear and obliterates it, and then is inspired by other people that do it -- for me, that's really interesting, because I have my own fears, and I have my own inhibitions. Sitting up here and talking to a bunch of people is a little scary. But you kind of just have to do it. All of us, the fact that we go out of bed and we go do stuff -- we're overcoming fear to some extent to even go outside the house."

I wouldn't mind a reboot. I'd love to see Zack's take on him.

I'd like to see a Green Lantern film with the same visual style of Man of Steel. THAT would be awesome.

This NEEDS to be rebooted. Lantern needs justice.

A reboot is not needed. Acknowledge the facts of the first film and move on. If you want to change the actor and tone, go ahead. It worked for Norton/Ruffalo's Hulk. The audience was able to deal. If you want to change the costume (which producers do obsessively ANYWAY), go ahead. So what exactly do we need to reboot? At some point the audience will get exhausted trying to keep track of the do-overs. Just say no.

That pic I posted has truth to it. Green Lantern won't have his own film unless Batman has a significant cameo in it.

Green Lantern doesn't need a reboot so much as it needs a new direction.

Hal can go after Sinestro in space while Jon Stewart trains on Earth with Kilowog to be its new Green Lantern.

Fear? Sinestro confirmed!

KrazyForKomix - No thank you, I'd rather have them reboot Green Lantern and forget about the 2011 movie. Also how would it fit in with the timeline? The U.S. military was surprised the by arrival of Zod and his goons, why would they be surprised if they already faced Parallax?

It'd probably be easier for WB/DC to start over again and do everything over for Green Lantern.

It really DOES need a reboot. GL needs to be done right dammit !

Hulk is such a simple character he's basically just known for Hulking out and smashing stuff when he gets angry.

You can't treat GL the same way, the GL universe and mythos is bigger than the Hulks.
