AVENGERS Star Mark Ruffalo Has Asked Rian Johnson For A Role In STAR WARS EPISODE VIII

Mark Ruffalo (better known to comic book fans as The Hulk in The Avengers) worked with Breaking Bad and Looper director Rian Johnson on The Brothers Bloom, and the actor has now revealed that he's reached out to the filmmaker about a possible role in Star Wars Episode VIII...

While J.J Abrams will direct Star Wars Episode VII, Rian Johnson is set to write and direct Star Wars Episode VIII and possible Episode IX as well. Of course, his first foray into a Galaxy Far, Far Away won't reach us until 2017, so it's obviously way too soon for any major casting or story details. However, one actor has now thrown his name into the hat and it's a member of Earth's Mightiest Heroes! In a recent interview with Collider, Mark Ruffalo revealed that he's recently reached out to Johnson and had this to say about how much he wants to star in a future Star Wars movie.

"Desperately. My e-mail to Rian after all these years was, 'Rian, congratulations on everything you’ve been doing.  And by the way, if there’s a part in Star Wars, please, anything, please consider considering me to join you.'" As for whether he'd be happy accepting even the smallest of roles, he said: "Possibly, depending on timing. I love hanging out with Rian so that’s interesting to me but I would like a role. It’d be nice to have something. And honestly, even a CGI role. I am thrilled about motion capture. It’s been a journey for me to get there," Ruffalo added before briefly touching on his role as the Hulk in Avengers: Age of Ultron. "After this last Avengers and the work we’re doing with that, and the advancement of the technology even since the first Avengers, I’m so excited about where we can go with motion capture.  I hope that I’m on the front line of this kind of new frontier of creativity and performance that is completely boundless.  Definitely be interested in doing something like that for Star Wars." What do you guys think?

He would make a good Jedi weapons master type role. Like the best lightsaber duelist in the new order set up by luke. Maybe Kyle Katarn? Did I spell his name right?

I know Disney won't do this, but . . . lets keep the recognizable stars down to a dull roar. Unknowns can carry the legend forward and it's what the fans prefer.
(and yes, that last part SOUNDED like I was stating a fact. I apologize. It is only my opinion.)

KrazyForKomix - I completely agree. Getting recognizable stars is a bad thing. It becomes about them and not the Star Wars mythos. (thats also why i hate WB's casting when it comes to CBMs)

@ KrazyForKomix

Ruffalo is an unknown actor. The only big budget movie that he was in was The Avengers. People are talking like Ruffalo is some type of Superstar. He was an unknown/little known actor that was chosen to replace Edward Norton who was actually famous.

13 Going on 30 – Starred opposite Jennifer Garner
Rumor Has It... – Starred opposite Jennifer Aniston
Shutter Island – Starred opposite Leonardo DiCaprio
Just Like Heaven – Starred opposite Reese Witherspoon
The Kids Are All Right – Starred opposite Julianne Moore and Annette Benning
Now You See Me – Starred with Jessie Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Morgan Freeman
Collateral – Starred with Tom Cruise and Jamie Fox
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind – Starred with Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet

He's not some indie actor. The man's a star. NOT A SUPERSTAR LUMINARY! But people definitely no him. My 17yr old daughter will see anything he's in. He is too known for being an unknown actor that can make the part theirs without the baggage of his success.

I'd say Ruffalo is a star, just not a big star. Just looking at this list Krazy put up, most of those roles were pretty forgettable and some not very large roles at all. He's a decent actor but I think a big step down from Norton. Now that guy had some huge roles starring in awesome movies like Fight Club, Rounders, American History X, etc.

But what's with this Rhian Johnson? Did everyone really like Looper that much? I LOVE time travel movies but I was incredibly let down by it. I thought Source Code was so much better.

good idea @Scorpion8125, i am tired of seeing your pasty arses on my t.v. all the misrepresentation of society in film has been trampled by your white cousins since the dawn of film up to Exodus: Gods and Kings. Star Wars movie has two blk ppl in it. get a life. dont hate a race cause your girlfriend dumped you for a [racial slur]. We don't all have big penises so you can rest easy.

"Because being black instantly makes an actor fantastic and wonderful."

indeed

If M Ruff joins Star Wars, they will have to make him black.

as a black man, I can confidently tell you that that's a special kind of stupid.

"I think all fictional characters in media should be made black and/or gay to avoid us honkies tainting the world and galaxy with white ppl."
