ARROW's Brandon Routh Reflects On SUPERMAN RETURNS; Confirms Costume For 'The Atom'

In the following interview, Arrow star Brandon Routh reflects on his role as the Man of Steel in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns and reveals that he's seen drawings of the suit which we will ultimately see him don as The Atom at some point in The CW series. Check it out!

Talking to the hosts of The DJ Tanner Show about his role as Ray Palmer in the third season of Arrow, Brandon Routh seemingly confirmed that he will at some point be suiting up as The Atom in The CW series. He's already shot the first six episodes and revealed that he's yet to don the suit, but the fact that concept art has been created is a pretty good indication that we'll see him become a superhero at some point during the third season! "It's a totally different suit and I haven't been in it yet, I've only seen drawings," Routh revealed when asked how it compares to his Superman Returns costume. "It's a very different character and I really can't say too much about what the suit's going to look like - just that it's very different and I don't believe it has a cape, which doesn't really surprise anybody if you've seen The Atom in the comics."

As for how he feels to be part of Arrow's third season, the actor added: "[It's] a cool opportunity; it's a cool show with a huge following. They do a great job grounding the show. Having my character on there -- he has a lot of different elements. I get to come on there and [do some] comedy in a pretty dark world. My character, Ray Palmer, interacts with Felicity mostly in the episodes I've shot so far and it's just a lot of fun. I have a great time working with Emily. I think it's going to add it a whole new element to the show that I think fans will like, whether they dislike Ray getting into the middle of the Oliver/Felicity relationship or not."

Superman Returns inevitably came up, and though he said no one has "had the balls" to insult the movie or his performance to his face, he does seem to meet a lot of people who are ashamed to be fans of the Bryan Singer helmed movie. "It doesn't weigh on me and never really did," Routh said when asked to reflect on his role in the divisive movie. "I took the job knowing full well that was going to be something that was going to be part of my life probably forever. Thankfully, it's in a good way. I'm proud of the movie and a lot of people enjoyed it so that helps, I guess. And having it be such an inspirational, iconic role, that's a nice thing to carry with me and have it be part of who people see me as." Are you looking forward to seeing The Atom in Arrow?

He was a good Superman/Clark. It was the story and direction that sucked.

I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with the character. Superman Returns wasn't his fault.

Also can't wait to compare this to Ant-Man. I assume that around the time he suits up on the show, we'll have seen the first Ant-Man trailer.

Routh was never the issue with SR. He was great casting for what they were looking for and he had some awe-inspiring moments in that film. Glad he's still getting work.

@Crabnado

Well I never said was. I just said we'll see a live action Atom. Before a live action Ant-Man.

I also specifically said DCCWCU instead of just DCCU.

I feel much better now that I have that off my chest.

He was a good Superman.......just in a bad 'Superman' movie.......Yes the film sucked!!

The plane scene is fantastic and the return to Krypton scene..rest is slow and boring....

Looking forward to his interpretation of the Atom..

@crabnado Do us all a favor and bring up to speed on all of abbreviations for WB's DC continuities. There's like 50 of them now right? I'm having a tough time keeping track.

I hope we see the Atom's costume before Ant-Man's...simply because I know there will be DC trolls rubbing that in and Marvelites who will be geniuenly butt hurt from it....because DC Comics and Marvel Comics are the two biggest sports teams on this site. Hahaha!

So Batman exists in the CW universe because they've already referenced Wayne Enterprises.

He exists in Gotham, obviously.

And Batman must exist in the upcoming Teen Titans show.

That's three different Batmans on TV.

I want this suit to look like the one with the belt pouches, oxygen mask etc...can't remember the artist. He looks well equipped to go atom size.

Doesn't really matter if Atom shows up before Ant-Man because the general audience doesn't really care about Arrow. That said, it just goes to show that DC doesn't have a lot respect for their heroes if they're willing to give us a half assed version of them for TV.
