Expect To See 'Ray Palmer' Suit Up As 'The Atom'...Just Not On ARROW!

Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) recently revealed that he's seen concept art of a superhero suit for The Atom, and now executive producer Marc Guggenheim weighs in on when and where we'll see Ray Palmer take on his heroic alter-ego. Surprisingly, he says not expect to see it happen on Arrow...

If you thought that The Flash had opened the door for superpowered characters to start appearing on Arrow, think again! Based on this and other recent interviews, the plan is very much to keep The CW series set in the same grounded world it has been for the most part since day one. When Green Arrow TV asked Marc Guggenheim about whether or not we'll see Brandon Routh's Ray Palmer suit up as The Atom on Arrow, he replied: "I think anything is possible. My instinct is that if Ray Palmer’s going to shrink, he’ll probably shrink on another show. With The Flash in existence, there’s no real compelling reason for us to do super powers on Arrow. We can bring characters to Flash to have super powers. We have plans for Ray that don’t involve shrinking, but our plans for Ray are actually really cool." What's interesting about this is that it could lead to supporting characters jumping from one show to the other, though it would be a shame to restrict superpowers to just The Flash. We'll just have to wait and see. For now, be sure to sound off with your thoughts below and head on over to the site to hear more from the producer.

It's weird how writing and filming schedules work for television. At first I use to think they would film and write all the episodes first and then broadcast them.

I really hope he suits up soon. Ray Palmer as a character is just awesome.

Oh cool! I mean why would I ever want to see the Atom shrink (insert sarcasm here)?

Wow...I was really looking forward to Arrow Season 3...but with idiotic statements like that...SO WHY [frick]ING USE RAY PALMER THEN....it sounds like they threw a dart at a random load of DC characters and it landed on Atom...yeah sure, he'll do for our story....they are going backwards. And Season 1 was horrible for villains, their Joker-like crap Vertigo (thank god for the proper Vertigo...although saying that...how the [frick] is he going to use his abilities in Arrow now?!!!), their horrible excuse for Firefly and dont get me started on Shrapnel....what an utter waste of a character.

Although, saying all that, I can see why they dont want to use superhumans in Arrow, the few times Arrow went up against Mirakuru-fueled bad guys, he got his ass kicked, not exactly a superhero if he is constantly getting his ass kicked. So, in future, leave ALL superpowered characters from the comics out of Arrow, just use all the highly skilled heroes and villains...because they have no idea how to portray the more outlandish ones

And not trying to start a flame war or anything, but the few superhumans Agents of SHIELD had, at least they portrayed them as close as possible to their comic counterparts! Not using a potentially cool one like Shrapnel and turning him into nothing!

I guess shrinking is too "out there" for Arrow. It might come across as cheesy on Arrow. Which I can see where they're coming from. That's not to say I'm not annoyed.

If fans live his character he's gonna get his own show next on cw. Stephen Amell already mentioned something about doing a justice league type on the cw.

I really liked in season two of Arrow how they started getting away from the realism and they want to go back to that. I would like to know why Arrow can't have super powered heroes anymore. People liked season two over one and they want to go back to how it was in the first. To me that's just crazy. So I hope that the producers of Arrow will change their mind and allow heroes like the Atom on Arrow.

Yeah, Deathlok REALLY seemed accurate.
Give me a break.

This is seriously one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. I mean, if you want to keep your superhero show grounded fine..but you can't open it up to powers and share a universe with The Flash, AND maintain your status quo at the same time. Talk about trying to have your cake and eat it.

I think this makes perfect sense. Both the shows seem to have their own feel. If you want dark a gritty real world type stuff, watch Arrow. If you want big time action and fun, watch Flash. And they still work in the same universe. I am fine with this idea
BlackIceJoe
BlackIceJoe - 10/3/2014, 5:20 PM
I'll say this one thing is for sure if they do bring Atom to Arrow, he won't be able to travel through the telephone lines. Which that would have been cool to see.

I'd rather the shows be different than all be the same
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 10/3/2014, 5:23 PM
AnthonyLantern, so, for example, if Palmer crosses over into the Flash for a while and is shrinking all over the lace, then returns to arrow...he can't shrink because grounded? Eh, no.

See why more reason to keep these show separate from the movies.
Batman52

At this point we should all just wait until Arrow starts next week. But I think where the producers are trying to point at is like for example Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Like Captain America is in a universe with superheros like Ironman, Thor, and Hulk that's true, but at the same time in Captain America: winter soldier the movie was grounded and barely show any super powers in that movie if you think about it. So basically the producers are saying Arrow is gonna be grounded like how Captain America: The Winter Soldier has become.

Man, i see lots of hate, and lots of jimmies rustled. comic book fans care about this thing but arrow fans prefer this actually. there are people who are saying how is green arrow going to fight super beings if he has no powers. lots of them prefer how arrow without the superpowers because if arrow battles people with powers whats the point of the flash? anyway thats just what i read in comments regarding this subject, i really don't care as long as its good.
