Victoria Alonso On Whether Marvel Feels Pressured After WONDER WOMAN Announcement

Marvel's Victoria Alonso appeared at the Visual Effects Society Production Summit in Hollywood today and Variety asked her about when exactly the studio is going to acknowledge fan demand and give one of their female superheroes the spotlight in a movie. "If were up to me, it would be today," she told them before apparently taking a long pause, smiling and declining to say anything else. Does Alonso know of a movie in the works or was she simply worried about speaking out of turn? That's not clear, but when the site asked whether or not Marvel feel under pressure now that Warner Bros. have announced Wonder Woman for 2017, she replied: "We have so much pressure internally for everything we do, we don’t need outside pressure. We are always so hard on ourselves," adding that she wishes them success beacuse "the success of superheroes, whether ours or others, is success for all of us. But I will be honored to be part of a woman leading the way." What do you guys think Which female Marvel character most deserves a movie?

If marvel was smart they would make a she hulk movie she's just has popular has wonder woman although she sleeps with almost like everybody but other then that too plus she's a lawyer super strong and related to the infamous hulk come on marvel the answer is obvious

i want a black panther film more than a Ms/captain marvel film but if they do make a ms/captain marvel film hopefully it will be good.

I have so few [frick]s to give... Not sure I'd even enjoy a Wonder Woman movie. Good on DC for having the bald to do it though. WW fans will eat it up. As for Ms. Marvel, meh. Not worried either way. I'd watch a solo Rogue or Jessica Drew movie, as long as they were done on a smaller scale. Big blockbusters don't lend themselves very well to female leads. They usually lack the universal draw. But, if someone does it right, I'll be in line. Hopefully Gal Gadot impresses with WW.

Eff this bullspit! DC is playing catch-up. Marvel is in the lead. Don't change your game plan because of diversity BS! If and when a film with a female lead makes sense from a script/production/talent standpoint, then you do it. Don't succumb to this lame 1990s pressure.

Good. I hope Marvel does feel pressure from WB/DC over Wonder Woman so they can finally get that kick in the butt to greenlight a Captain/Ms. Marvel movie or Black Widow spin-off. It's way past time that this happened already.

You act like Fast and Furious is expendables. Theres some substance there with the whole family theme you have to admit. The reason this franchise gas lasted so long was because of its diversity and characters.

Marvel never had a female character of the caliber of Wonder Woman.
The best ones are in the X-men comics, once you take them out of the equation there's not much left.
Ms Marvel never worked for me no matter how many times they've tried to push her on us.
For the MCU Black Widow is the only and obvious choice, Johansson is a huge star and the character has already been successfully introduced.

I like a lot of the Marvel movies, but they have virtually no intentional/unintentional diversity. The have leading white males with the few female and other race actors in supporting or less than supporting role. But, I also don't want them having diversity for the sake of diversity, because then we get bullshit like Ghostbusters having an all female cast just so they can make money by marketing it as an all female cast. I think that Feige's reasoning for "we don't have the time" is bull considering they could easily have planned out the MCU with a Black Panther/Captain Marvel movie in Phase 1/2, but now that they're so deep into production without focusing on a diverse cast any attempt by them to actually make a movie with a non-white/ female lead would feel like a publicity stunt.
