Michelle MacLaren Emerges As Frontrunner To Helm WONDER WOMAN

We've been hearing that Warner Bros. are keen on hiring a female director for 2017's Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot, but it has now been revealed that Emmy winner Michelle MacLaren (Breaking Bad) is indeed the frontrunner. That's not the full story though, so read on for details...

TV director Michelle MacLaren is the frontrunner to helm Wonder Woman for Warner Bros. reports The Wrap. Though it doesn't sound as if she's in talks just yet, the director - whose credits include Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and The Walking Dead - is the studios top choice. The site goes on to reveal that, "There are several other directors in contention — not all of whom are female — but MacLaren has earned a spot at the top of WB's list thanks to her strong track record working in television." Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that, "sources say MacLaren has had several meetings with the studio regarding the project." Based on the fact that all of the trades are running with this story, it appears as if we may now knowho will helm this released! Starring Gal Gadot (who bring the character to the big screen for the first time in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Wonder Woman is set to be released in 2017 ahead of Zack Snyder's Justice League. Rumour has it that the movie will be set in the 1920s, but no story details are known as of right now.  Latino-Review were the first to report the news. What do you guys think?

Best choice and long overdue for Michelle!

Also, Latino Review broke it first. Still gets little cred from the users here.

I'm just happy we're even getting a Wonder Woman film. After that, Black Panther? Shit is cray.

Hell. Yes.

In the LR article it says that Michael Goldenberg is penning the script, which I didn't know. Does anybody know when that was confirmed? He's also listed on IMDB for it, but I just don't remember when.

Right. I guess I'll just reiterate what I've always said. Kathryn Bigelow was the best choice on that list but Michelle MacLaren is the next best choice. I could see her doing a great job.

I hope the studio execs don't sabotage the film, then blame it on a female director.

I don't know what I'd be more excited about: a female director finally getting a shot to do a massive, big-budget blockbuster...or yet another TV director making the jump over to film. It's a win-win (or a win-win-win, considering how MacLaren is an INCREDIBLE director. Easily my first choice). Awesome news all around.

"Based on the fact that all of the trades are running with this story, it appears as if we may now know who will helm this release!"

I think so but just cause she's the front runner doesn't mean she'll end up taking the job. It does seem likely though.

@Dingbat I don't think she was ever in contention since she rather work on her war/govt films with Mark Boal (which is probabably best for her and WB).

@DIAMONDS Variety has credited TheWrap before (and recently too) and Justin Kroll and Jeff Sneider are both buddies so "Variety > The Wrap" doesn't mean much

@DIAMONDS Ah, then if still on board he's been working on this for a while. Wasn't he also going to penn Green Lantern 2 before it went sour?
"Oh and Variety > The Wrap." Definitely.

I think after Green Lantern bombed it removed any chance of Michael Goldenberg writing another DC property.

So far so good with directors. I'm really interested in who they get for Aquaman!

I really don't want it to be a prequel/period piece....that is the only real complaint I have about a WW movie. By all means include flashbacks...but don't make it a full on prequel/period piece...as that only creates ANOTHER difficult to handle aspect of the film that could ultimately hurt it.

@Sipprelle @Diamonds When you guys say 'Variety > The Wrap" you're basically saying which reporter gets the confirmation from an agent/exec/etc first. Jeff Sneider worked for Variety twice before going to TheWrap. Variety has longevity and has the higher tenure, but TheWrap is just as credible.
