AMC Give Seth Rogen And Evan Goldberg's PREACHER Pilot The Green Light

Preacher fans were surprised to learn about Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's involvement with the adaptation of the classic Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon comic book series, but AMC (the network behind Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead) have now given the pilot the green light!

AMC have given a pilot order to Preacher, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's take on the beloved comic book. The duo wrote the episode together and are producing alongside Neal Moritz. Despite the controversial nature of the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon series, Sony and AMC are both keen to move ahead on the project, but this is a pilot order rather than the previously talked about straight to series order. "’Preacher’ has been our favorite comic since it first came out," said Rogen and Goldberg, who are attached to direct. "Garth Ennis is one of our idols and it’s an incredible honor to be working on this. We promise we won’t make too many dick jokes and ruin it." For those of you unfamiliar with the property, it focuses on Jesse Custer, a preacher in a Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend and an Irish vampire, the three embark on a journey to find God. The pilot will go in front of cameras next year for series consideration in 2016.

I used to be such a huge fan of Freaks and Geeks, but if they douche up this movie like Kill Kim Jong or Neighbors or whatever other latest frat boy shite they're pumping out...

Preacher is possibly the greatest graphic novel of all time, without question in the top five greatest. If you haven't read it, go get it.

Would have been better Justified as a HBO series but this could work really well in context.

Nice. I haven't read the full series but was intrigued by the few I did read. This should be a good series. As long as their are no dick jokes!

This could so be epic if they keep the integrity of the comic in place.

They really don't need to change a thing.

The Preacher is already a masterpiece.

The task is not to screw it up.

10 years ago I would have said:
Jason Patric for Jesse
Ewan McGregor for Cassidy
Cameron Diaz for Tulip.
Now.....I have no idea, but Jennifer Lawrence would be great as Tulip.

I always thought a few years ago Billy Zane would have been a good fit for Jesse. My pick for Cassidy has stayed the same though- Sean Patrick Flannery.

Honestly don't know much about this property. But since Rogen and Goldberg seem to write comedy almost exclusively is that tge best fit for this? I know someone mentioned humor is a part of the series, but is it a full fledged comedy? Sounds like an interesting property, would be interested in this, but not as a comedy. Some humor thrown in? Sure. But a Rogen style comedy? Don't know about that...

being on AMC limits them profanity and nudity wise should have gone to HBO for the full package.

I have a feeling this will be another Walking Dead for AMC. As far as the casting goes seeing as this going to be a series and not a movie I doubt we'll see Rogan or Franco in anything other than a cameo, if that, I don't think they'll cast any big names, although a few years ago I swear I heard that the guy that played Cyclops in X-men was attached to play the Preacher.
