Christian Bale Weighs In On THE DARK KNIGHT RISES' Final Scene; Was It A Dream?

It's been over two years since the release of The Dark Knight Rises, but fans still discuss the end of that movie and whether it really happened or was simply just Alfred's dream for Bruce Wayne as he had detailed a little earlier in the movie. So, what does Christian Bale think?

Christopher Nolan did something very interesting and unexpected in The Dark Knight Rises; he gave Bruce Wayne an end to his story. However, some fans still believe that the Caped Crusader died while removing that bomb from Gotham City and that what Alfred was seeing at the end was simply his imagination or just a dream. Valid points can be made for both sides, but which does Christian Bale fall on in this argument? You can find out in the player below! What's particularly interesting about listening to him is how passionate he still seems to be about the work he and Nolan did on The Dark Knight Trilogy, a rarity when there are so many actors out there who seem glad to leave their superhero roles behind them! What do you guys think? Sound off below!

The people thinking it was a dream are idiots, frankly.

There isn't substantial evidence in the film to support it. Nothing more to this "theory" than people saying "What if it was a dream!"

Even those that see the Inception ending as being a dream have something to go off of. Hell, what if the final scene of EVERY movie is a dream? See how easy that is?

There is all evidence supporting the "reality" of it, the software patch on the bat, the missing pearls, etc etc.

Yeah, it was definitely a dream. How else would Alfred know about Selina? Wait...

This thread will get ugly.

Imma just say this...

Dark Knight Rises was the cream of Nolan's crop of films. Fantastic end to a fantastic trilogy, and probably the best thing DC will ever put out.

The Dark Knight Rises was a big heaping pile of garbage.

I think, because this was an issue around my friend circle, that since this followed Inception, everyone kept looking into the ending way too deeply. Had Inception come out after TDKR, there would have been no debate.

You can see a Totem spinning on Bruce Wayne's balls.

the problem was they showed a shot of batman in the cockpit right before the explosion, they should have made the last shot of batman in the cockpit the one just before he exits the skyline, that way it would have been easier to accept he made a batman like escape

It just looked like Alfred was seeing what he wanted to see becuase he felt regret about letting Bruce died and was not at his side. So yeah it lokked like the MOFU was day dreaming.

If he wasn't why didn't Bruce contact or or sat next to him just didn't make sense. As for clousure as Batman GTFO.

Ridiculous to even discuss. they beat the whole "no auto pilot" over the head a billion times and they tell you. software patch made by wayne.

stfu! why is it because inception came out does everyone think endings are dream sequences now.

"the problem was they showed a shot of batman in the cockpit right before the explosion, they should have made the last shot of batman in the cockpit the one just before he exits the skyline, that way it would have been easier to accept he made a batman like escape"

The Dark Knight Rises was on TNT a little while ago and I re-watched that scene, and yeah, the editing is REALLY off. Nolan obviously wanted to do that scene in such a way that it suggested his death, but he didn't really leave any wiggle room for Bruce to have escaped, either. Given what's in the final product, we have to accept that the shot of Bruce in the Bat isn't being shown at the same exact moment as the subsequent shots of the Bat flying away and the bomb exploding...which is a camera "trick" that Nolan had never used in the Bat films before.

Just a bit messy, is all.

I can't believe this is even still a debate; not one time when I watched TDKR did I ever think to myself "What if Alfred's just dreaming this?". There is pretty much no evidence to support this fact; it's pretty obvious Bruce really escaped with Selina and retired. At the end of the day; I couldn't imagine WB ever actually letting Nolan kill Bruce off at the end of the trilogy; no major supehero has ever stayed dead in any mainstream canon.

@FordEl Its just my opinion man. Too many plot-holes and build up (for a really dissatisfying payoff) for me to enjoy it.
