Sony Have Approached Sam Raimi About Returning To The SPIDER-MAN Franchise

Following up on the massive revelations from a little earlier today, it now appears as if Sony have approached Sam Raimi about returning to the Spider-Man series as a director or producer. Could he be the one to save the iconic Marvel superhero? Hit the jump for details...

SlashFilm and a number of other outlets are reporting that Amy Pascal also turned to Sam Raimi for help with the Spider-Man franchise. Though it has now been removed from the piece written up by The Wall Street Journal, it did initially state that, "Ms. Pascal also talked to Sam Raimi, who directed the studio’s first three 'Spider-Man' movies, about returning to the franchise, possibly to direct again or as a producer." It's not clear why this was removed, but it's hard to imagine they made a mistake (instead, it could be that they're saving this piece of information for a follow-up report). Regardless, apart from studio interference ruining Spider-Man 3, Raimi did an incredible job with the iconic Marvel superhero, and it's easy to imagine him putting the franchise back on the right track if he agrees to return. You can find more details about the talk of a Captain America/Spider-Man crossover by clicking here. What do you think a possible return for Raimi?

I wouldn't mind if he chose to comeback, but only if he would have the creative control he had on 1 & 2. Not gonna happen though.

His Spiderman movies were pretty iconic. They captured the heart of the characters pretty well, and Doc Ock is to date one of the best villains we've had on screen. We all like to rag on the dancing and crying, but these movies are important to the cbm genre.

My sources tell me Sam Raimi at one point in his life was met to direct a Spider-Man film.

As much as I love Raimi's Spider-Man films (Spider-Man 2 is one my all-time favorite films) I don't want him to come back under Sony, especially considering how badly they screwed him over on SM3 and SM4.

lol Sony is so desperate, Marvel can just bite its time and by phase 4 they'll have at least Spidey and FF back.

So this will be Spiderman's THIRD revamp in what -12 or so years? Sony is so desperate to keep this franchise. But figures -they have nothing else.
