Details On Spider-Man's CIVIL WAR Cameo And Sony's (Stupid) "Shared Universe" Plans

In "Sony Hack" emails from early October, we learn more about how Spider-Man's appearance in Captain America: Civil War would have had an impact on his solo movies, and the ridiculous sounding plans for a shared Spider-Man universe similar to that of Marvel's! Read on for details...

As you should already know by now, talks took place between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios earlier this year about Spider-Man making an appearance in Captain America: Civil War. Despite the fact that those apparently later fell apart, Michael De Luca, co-president of production for Columbia Pictures, at one point sent an email to Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, saying: "I really feel, in my heart of hearts, that the new spiderman [sic] in cap 3 could just appear in his own film, be it sinister six or a kick ass spidey film of his own, after that intro in cap 3 and people would be cool with it." In an earlier email from September (seemingly before Sony started talking about the Marvel deal), plans were indeed being discussed for both a "female spidey movie" and what the site goes on to describe as an, "Avengers-like superhero extravaganza incorporating characters from different upcoming Spider-Man-related projects." Wait, what?!

In fact, De Luca is quoted directly as saying, "Seems to me maybe, since the Spider-man universe itself is deep, you guys should look at sinister six, new spidey, female movie and venom as linked pieces leading to eventual mega movie ala Feige and Fox and not stand alone single films. It's early in all these and you can still map out a blueprint for connective tissue." This sounds absolutely nonsensical...were they really planning on throwing all of these characters into a single movie in the hopes that it would somehowork like The Avengers and the planned Fantastic Four/X-Men crossover? Seriously guys, just make that f***ing deal with Marvel already...

they will probably reboot Spiderman and let him become part of MCU.
Kraven The Last hunt is very bold way to reboot the franchise but I doubt it will happen. The story is just too dark. It would not be definitely a kid friendly movie.

So, a Spidey and friends movie? sounds like a train wreck waiting to happen.

Seriously. Give up Sony. Make a few bucks off the property by selling it to Marvel Studios.

You probably will make more in the long run.

It is so, so rare that we see how the sausage gets made. Watching these fools absolutely flailing is too sweet. They really have no idea what to do with Spider-Man.

This is all such a damn shame.. That they are treating such an iconic character with such a messy approach....however I do enjoy Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.

I would not call this stupidity guys. I would rather call this a sign of desperation, which is quite understandable. The only one that they pure own by them self is Spidey, is it is understandable that they would think in lines like this. Do i think this would work? Hell no. X-men has at least enough charachter to make it possible as a "alternative mcu".

And to everybody (inlcuding myself) with Sonys economical situation. It is not a question of IF, Spidey are comming to the MCU, but rather WHEN and HOW.

The alternative i would say is

1. Sony goes to be just Sony Playsation and they sell the right/trade the videogame rights for it.

2 Sony accept the 60/40 deal (let's face it guys they will not sell of the rights just like that, since they need money if they are keep going with doing movies. It would be a stupid movie in terms of business tensile if they would sell it off instead of do the 60/40 deal)

3. Sony goes bankroupt (wouldn't suprise me since it is well known that they are bleeding money. They have sold of a a couple of buildings, as well as their computurdivision, i do believe the TVdivision and it is said that they are going to sell out the mobile market (if they prehaps have even sold it yet, if so then it is something that i have missed) how they are going with the music market, i have yet to hear.

Superman is to Doomsday as Batman is to Bane as Spider-Man is to Sony.

The whole idea of a shared universe for Spider-Man is making it more difficult for Sony to make a good movie. They are really forcing it with these ideas.

I'm pretty much tired of Spidey movies at the moment, I can't handle my favorite superhero being handled poorly in every medium. I would like some cameos in future Marvel Studio movies and I'll be satisfied.

This is [frick]ing horrible.

What's worse is I'm such a Spider-Man and Peter Parker fan at heart, the source material and stories are excellent, I can't believe what Sony has been doing to the character, they are ruining it beyond repair.

Give the rights to Marvel, bring Spider-Man home

I watched TASM2 yesterday because of all this news... It really wasn't as bad as I remembered. Garfield and Dane Dehaan were great. The movie was just very cluttered and had a million things going on at once, like they were just throwing sh*t against the wall and seeing what would stick. I honestly wouldn't mind the same team coming back for a third so long as they told a straight forward story. Drop the whole Parker Parents story, don't stick a villain in just for the sake of selling toys, have it make sense. Sinister Six and Venom could be good as long as they are just telling a straight story.

now ... give me Jake Gylenhall as the older Peter, Marton Csokas as Kraven, get some really good director and decent writer onboard, stop thinking about the franchise for a second - just make one really Amazing Spiderman movie ... adapt the Kraven Last Hunt storyline properly ... stop the producers from act like they are some spoiled shitheads.

Then i will see your movie Sony.

Because as for now the franchise is dead for me.

Their shared universe idea sounds terrible. The TASM movies have been mediocre at best.

Now, Sony wants to create a shared universe based around a failing franchise?

That's not gonna work.
