Peter Jackson Won't Helm A Marvel Movie; "I've Never Read A Comic Book In My Life"

Now that he's finished playing in Middle-Earth, many fans are hoping we'll get to see Peter Jackson (The Hobbit) take on a comic book adaptation. Don't get your hopes up though, as he doesn't appear to be interested! Have Marvel approached him with an offer?

Peter Jackson has spent quite some time in Middle-Earth, and now that he's finished with The Hobbit trilogy, what could be next for the filmmaker? He followed The Lord of the Rings with King Kong and The Lovely Bones, and it appears as if his next project will be something more along the lines of the latter. "I don't really like the Hollywood blockbuster bandwagon that exists right now," Jackson told Movie Fone in a recent interview. "The industry and the advent of all the technology, has kind of lost its way. It's become very franchise driven and superhero driven. I've never read a comic book in my life so I'm immediately at a disadvantage and I have no interest in that. So now it's time for us to step back. We're heading towards something of that scale."

Jackson wouldn't be the first director to helm a comic book movie who didn't grow up a fan of course, but he seems fairly dismissive of the genre here, adding: "So, yes, I'm not going to head off and do a Marvel film. So if I don't do a Marvel film, I don't have any other choice -- I've got to go make a small New Zealand movie!" It's interesting that he mentions Marvel specifically...could they have reached out about something like Thor: Ragnarok? Regardless of the answer, he won't be doing it! Here's hoping he reconsiders anyway. What do you guys think of these comments?

He doesn't have to direct a CBM, but he can certainly produce one.

I'd like to see him help out with Aquaman. Like as a "creative consultant" or something.

So he doesn't seem to care for blockbuster franchises packed with special effects, but isn't that just what the Hobbit films are?

Everything he's saying about Hollywood is a criticism onto himself, oh the irony.

I can respect that a bit but this is coming from the dude who made the lord of the rings franchise and is currently working on the tin tin franchise. Also all he does is make blockbusters

Yup, it has...and milking a short book into 3 movies is a big part of that...

Everyone who keeps thinking they're clever by saying "Oh he made the Hobbit", you know that's exactly what he's talking about, right?

He didn't want to come back and make anymore LOTR movies after the original but the studio basically Shanghai'ed him into doing them even though he was against it.

I like the Hobbit movies, but they're a shining example of what he's complaining about. The industry being "franchise driven" due to the "advent of technology".

The Lord Of The Rings is still my fave trilogy of all time though. Great movies

LOL, Peter thinks he's too cool to jump on the popculture-serial-fantasy-adventure bandwagon. A little too late there Peter.

What you just said was the same thing I was thinking. This state from a guy that turned a 1 book story into a new trilogy. What's that if not Franchise driven LOL
