12 YEARS A SLAVE Star Chiwetel Ejiofor In Talks For Leading Role In DOCTOR STRANGE
Chiwetel Ejiofor (Children of Men) missed out on playing the villain in Spectre, but he's now in early talks with Marvel Studios to take on a leading role in Doctor Strange alongside Benedict Cumberbatch? Will he be Baron Mordo or The Ancient One? You can find out the latest details here...
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Chiwetel Ejiofor is being courted for an unspecified leading role in Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange. Things are at an early stage right now, but the site points out that "Several sources have intoned that Ejiofor is wanted for a villainous role but some insiders have pooh-poohed that." Obviously, that doesn't really clear things up all that much! If he is playing the movie's main bad guy, that would likely be Baron Mordo, but Rush star Daniel Bruhl (who will first appear in Captain America: Civil War) has also been rumoured for that part. The Wrap however claim that he might be playing The Ancient One which would be interesting!
Regardless, production is expected to begin once Captain America: Civil War finishes shooting and casting for Doctor Strange is still in the early stages. Ejiofor delivered an Academy Award nominated performance in 12 Years a Slave, and with villainous roles in the likes of Serenity and Children of Men on his CV, he'll make for a great Baron Mordo if that is the role he's being eyed for!
