ARROW Boss Says 'Diggle' Isn't GREEN LANTERN Because WB Has "Plans" For 'John Stewart'

The theory that David Ramsey's John Diggle might end up being Green Lantern John Stewart continues, but Marc Guggenheim has now put that to bed for good. However, he does drop a few hints about other Arrow characters being revealed as someone else from the comics...

When Arrow star David Ramsey recently said that "anything can happen" in regards to Diggle being revealed as John Stewart somewhere down the line, speculation about what could be in store for his character began anew. When MTV News caught up with executive producer Marc Guggenheim recently, he put an end to those theories once and for all. "It’s funny, I’ve spoken to David quite a bit about this issue, I know it keeps coming up. I spoke to [writer] Geoff Johns at DC after that interview went viral. Basically, John Diggle is now a character in the comics… John Diggle is John Diggle. We’re not being coy and saying John Diggle is someone else, i.e. John Stewart. DC has other plans for that character. We love David, and we love the character of John Diggle that he’s created. We have really cool plans for him… they involve a wedding ring, but they don’t involve a power ring." Does this mean John Stewart will be the DC Cinematic Universe's Green Lantern?

That might be a stretch, but it's certainly possible that they would choose him over Hal Jordan for Justice League and the character's next solo outing. While Diggle is just Diggle then, Guggenheim did drop a very intriguing hint about other members of the Arrow cast who could end up being revealed as a character from the comic books. Two to be exact! "There are two characters who would probably fall into that category. Were we to do it, they would be characters from the comics that you already know." What do you guys think? First Harley Quinn: http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/arrow-producer-says-warner-bros-has-plans-for-harley-quinn-466

There are very few things we've asked DC Comics for that we haven't gotten. That was something you asked for, and what you saw is a compromise that Geoff Johns and I came up with. To even get that much was a thrill for us. I know that they may have other plans for her...

Than Blue Beetle Ted Kord: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/green_arrow/arrow/news/?a=104438

We actually originally asked for Ted Kord. But DC has other plans for him, so they said, 'How about Ray Palmer?' And we said that would work even better.

@Fairyemblem92

Not DCAU John when you pair him up with Wally.

But that is not how he was portrayed as in the cartoon. He was the straight man in the comedic duo with Wally West. He was serious but not too serious or as serious as he is in the comics. He was more like Worf from Star Trek: The Next Generation.

DC comics has plans for a character, but does CW?

Look, it didn't stop Marvel from having Skye and Quake in the comics... whatever kind of sense that makes.

Also... Skyquake... heh...

I said he was the straight man in the comedic duo. You're putting words in my mouth.

@Fairyemblem92 and @TronVin

You're both mostly right.

John Stewart hasn't been given the amount of editorial room to become interesting that Hal (and most solo characters) have had. In the comics, he's mostly boring with a few specific tragic moments characterization. In the cartoon, where he was given a role to play in the dynamics of the team, he was great.

Green Lantern isn't getting a solo movie any time soon, and maybe not for decades (it doesn't matter what WB has "announced"). What matters right now is that he can be interesting in an ensemble, similar to how Marvel has handled the Hulk.

As for Diggle: it sucks that he's apparently going to stay the boring gun guy on the boring team of archers. Having a green lantern ring that he was slowly learning how to use would have been at least a nice change of pace.

Awesome, John Stewart in the DCCU!! Hopefully, I could definitely see Idris Elba as Stewart

@Fairyemblem92

He wants too, I don't think he did it yet.... If there was an offer on the table from DC/WB, I'm sure he may reconsider, crazier things have happened.

But, yeah, I know it won't happen but I think Elba would own the role

I don't buy that guy as Hal Jordan. That tweet the other day about being on the phone with Time Warner for over an hour, was about cable/internet.

@Brainiac13 I've seen that around. Possibly the stupidest assumption in recent memory. Just because someone has acted in things before, works out, and owns a leather jacket, doesn't mean shit.
