COMICS: Check Out Alex Ross's Stunning PRINCESS LEIA #1 Variant Cover

Princess Leia #1 is an upcoming five issue limited series from Mark Waid (Daredevil) and Terry Dodson (Marvel Knights: Spider-Man), and now Marvel has unveiled Alex Ross' stunning variant cover. Weirdly though, it doesn't actually feature the comic book's titular character!

When Princess Leia Organa was captured by the Empire as a Rebel spy, she never betrayed her convictions, even in the face of the complete destruction of her home world, Alderaan. When her rescue came, she grabbed a blaster and joined the fight, escaping back to the Rebel Alliance and helping strike the biggest blow against the Empire—the destruction of the Death Star. But in the aftermath of that victory, the question remains...what is a princess without a world? Writer Mark Waid (Daredevil, S.H.I.E.L.D.) and artist Terry Dodson (Avengers & X-Men: Axis, Uncanny X-Men) bring us a story of Leia’s quest to help her people and find her place in the galaxy.

Reminds me of the recent uncanny X-men #31 with a cover featuring Havok, when he's nowhere to be found inside the book.

I think no one read the "VARIANT COVER" part.
A lot of variants don't even have the character of the comic

Overall it's a good cover, but I would expect better out of Ross. Someone of his talent, skill, and education should know better. The goofy factor of the hand should have been enough to warrant a do over. The anatomy just falls apart under that glove. Then it doesn't even convincingly look like the hand is gripping the saber. The foreshortening of Luke's arm just looks kinda stumpy, and that perceptive doesn't follow through the image, which is how the face ends up off. You can really see how little attention was payed to the perspective on the light saber blade. It's just coming out of the hilt at a weird angle and is not coming at you at all like you would expect for the angle and perspective of the hilt. Lastly the light from blade is not accounted for in the rest of the image, there should be a green colored light source from below. I'm only pointing this out because I expect more from Ross because I know he is capable of it. The dudes at the top of the game, at the top pay scale. This shouldn't of left the drafting table, but he has been doing a lot of these Star Wars covers lately so I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt and chalk these idiosyncrasies off to deadlines. Ross is capable of amazing.
