THE LEGO MOVIE Sequel Lands A Director; Phil Lord & Chris Miller Still Writing Script

As expected, Phil Lord and Chris Miller won't be directing The LEGO Movie sequel, something which is sure to disappoint fans of the first movie as much as its recent Oscars snub! They will however still write and produce, and you can find out who will be in the director's chair here...

It's fair to say that directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were the ones responsible for making The LEGO Movie so special, so the fact that they won't be helming the sequel is disappointing to say the least. Instead, it will be first time feature director Rob Schrab (who has directing credits on TV shows like Community and The Mindy Project) who takes over the follow-up. Lord and Miller are still writing the script based on a story by them, Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan. They will also produce and had this to say in a statement released today. "We are so excited to collaborate with Rob.  He is a comedy genius, a visual savant, and we have been stalking him for years.  No one works harder than Rob, and his aesthetic, combined with his sense of humor, bring a strong, unique, thoughtful, and passionately nerdy voice to this project.  People who know him are slapping their foreheads today and saying, ‘Of course!’" Schrab has a lot of accolades (including a WGA Award nomination), but do you think he's the right man for the job? Sound off below!

Sucks they won't be directing, but seems like they're still heavily involved (along with actually writing the script, obviously). Not ideal, and the sequel might not be quite as special as The Lego Movie, but it has a good chance of being good, at the very least.

*shrugs*

As long as they're writing the movie, I'm sure it'll be in good hands

Damn, just checked out this guy's filmography. He directed the 'Basic Lupine Urology' episode of Community...

I'm sorry I ever doubted you Rob!

Oh I'm not disappointed by the change in director at all; what I am disappointed with is that The Lego Movie somehow managed to become a critical and financial success when it was the worst [frick]ing movie of the year.

It was one of the stupidest films I've ever seen, and I consider the continued success of Michael Bay to be God's way of punishing mankind for praising this piece of shit that the Academy at least had some sense not to nominate.

So yeah, the sooner the sequel dies, the better the planet'll be.

Well, they're still closely involved and they seem to genuinely recommend the new guy. It might make for another great film.

Still, I think the Lego Movie sequel should come before that Lego Batman one.

Rob Schrab is awesome. He's a comics writer and artist first. His character, Scud the Disposable Assassin, was awesome. Great to see talents come up through comics and end up in big projects. Congratulations Rob. I'm glad I still have my signed copy of Scud #1 that I bought from him at the Javitz center in like 92-94? Hilarious guy.
