Drew Goddard To Direct SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN; 'Iron Man' And 'Sinister Six' To Appear?

According to a new report, Drew Goddard is set to write and direct Spectacular Spider-Man for Marvel and Sony, with Iron Man and the Sinister Six both set to play major roles. Hit the jump for details on that, who they're looking to cast, what's happening to the spinoffs, and more.

Latino-Review have dropped a massive scoop about Spectacular Spider-Man. Yup, it sounds like that's the title being considered by Marvel and Sony in what they hope will be a three part series coming out over three consecutive summers. Everything which was being developed by Sony (including that Aunt May spinoff) has now been scrapped, including the standalone Sinister Six movie. However, Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) isn't out of a job as he's set to write and direct Spectacular Spider-Man. That seems like a fitting title, and differentiates it from Amazing.

So, story details! As expected, there will be no origin story and the movie will take place in high school. However, they're thinking long term, as the actor cast as Spider-Man (likely an unknown, and NOT Dylan O'Brien as one redditor claims) is set to be involved with multiple trilogies similar to Harry Potter as we follow his journey over a number of years. Here's the really interesting stuff though. According to the site, "A major part of the first film will involve Spider- Man fighting Iron Man and then trying to pass the “audition” to join the Avengers" while "The first film will involved the Sinister Six coming together with the thought to later maybe spin them off."

For those of you who are sceptical, The Wrap is also running with this story, so stay tuned. Badass Digest meanwhile claims that Spider-Man might also appear in Doctor Strange...thoughts?

This is sounding extremely promising.

Countless others as well as myself also "called" that the next series would be called "The Spectacular Spider-Man". It sounds much better than "The Amazing Spider-Man" IMHO.

Via. TheWrap: "While Reddit reports say Dylan O’Brien has been cast as “Spider-Man,” that isn’t remotely true, according to insiders with knowledge of the situation."

High school again?

What´s the problem with having an adult Peter Parker? We´ve had that for the past 30 years! And we already have the teenage Spidey in the animated series.

If its Miles Morales, well then whatever

The fact they are using "Spectacular" is great... Also leave Ultimate alone... SM4-6 could very well be Miles (maybe Prowler is part of SinSix) and then we have a nature perfect progression....

Oh and a indie director who has directed only one critical sweetheart and sleeper hit is now taking over the Spider-man franchise. Haven´t we seen that before like 5 years ago?

Iron Man stealing the spider-man movie? He was already steal the third Captain America movie.

But this news comes from the Latino review so the chances of all of this information be lie big, but if not it is another big disappointment.

It's like saying that this is the third attemp.

If this is the announcement, it makes sense that RDJ would personally tease it (Iron Man cameo).

@ Makalas,

Because Tobey McGuire's movie was called "Spider-Man."

Wow! Sounds like Sinister Six is still happening. Seeing that Goddard will be penning the screenplay/script along with the Sinister Six shows that they must be related in some form or fashion. Hopefully all of that jive turkey about Spidey getting teased on and etc will be thought out again.

People already whining about Tony Stark stealing the spotlight when Civil War hasn't even come out yet? What's new...

This is a fantastic choice. As long as that Sinister Six isn't happening, it's for the greater good.

I actually thought the series would be called "Ultimate Spider-Man", but this is good too.
