More Details On Whether Drew Goddard Will Direct Marvel's SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN

Since Latino-Review dropped the news earlier today about Drew Goddard writing and directing the Spectacular Spider-Man reboot, the trades have weighed in and added some additional details about whether or not The Cabin in the Woods helmer will indeed join forces with Marvel and Sony

Following the very interesting details about Spider-Man which found their way online earlier today (find those here if you missed them), the trades have added some additional information about where the deal with Drew Goddard stands. As it turns out, The Wrap cautions that it's not quite a done deal, with their insiders adding: "Drew has not yet met with Marvel but will soon; along with several others." The Cabin in the Woods helmer is said to be a heavy favourite and it's not believed he will pass if it's offered to him. The Hollwood Reporter get even more specific though, confirming that the studios are very interested in having Goddard both write and direct, and that he's set to meet them TOMORROW. The deal isn't signed then, but expect to hear something official sometime in the coming weeks and months. Hopefully casting won't take that long! Thoughts?

If this is the end result of Goddard leaving Daredevil, then that just might be worth it. Goddard directing (and writing) the Spidey movie would be incredible.

Let's just hope they leave out the Sinister Six stuff.

Like the idea, don't know how if I like Spidey fighting Iron Man and/or Cap right after Civil War.

If the name is really 'Spectacular Spider-Man', I hope this means inspiration from the animation of same name.. it's very very good

The other stuff I've read about this is that it won't be a straight-up "Iron Man vs Spider-Man" type of thing.

It'd be more of Spidey wanting in on the Avengers (and who knows what the shape of the team will be in post-Civil War, btw), and Stark being initially resistant to that, and Spider-Man acting like the petulant high schooler that he can be sometimes haha.

That doesn't sound quite as bad, and it at least gives Iron Man more reason to be a part of it. That said, I wouldn't be mad to see the whole Iron Man/Avengers thing dropped either, though.

So uhh...what they're trying to do with...with...the character...

Damn it Nickk!

What's this thread about again?

Well this is interesting. I wonder what villain he wil would use. If Sony can work out a deal with Disney seeing Kingpin in the film would be great. I would like to see Kingpin bring in Kraven to do his dirty work.

@BradyD

Goddard was working on Daredevil before he left to do Sony's S6 spinoff. Many like Goddard because he's a Whedon guy.

@0megaDaGod Haha I like your take on that! Spider-Man seems best left on his own rather than with a team, and your theory would actually give a great in-universe explanation for why he'd be separate for a bit and doing his own thing. With Goddard (hopefully) writing, I'm sure he'd be able to tie that together with whatever arc they choose to give Parker and make it that much better. Him being rejected from the team could potentially go a long way towards defining his motivation and stuff.

I can dig it. Hopefully Marvel/Sony has enough self-control to do something like that!

@SauronsBANE The thing is, while comic fans know that Spider-man is a great stand-alone character, the general audience has pretty much been begging for Spidey to show up in the Avengers. I don't think Marvel or Sony would pass up on that opportunity to make some serious bank.

I hope this is all true! Go Drew Goddard!

The title Spectacular Spider-Man will only mean it'll be Peter Parker after all!

nice...so its gonna be a NYC setting, a few of the sinister six appearing here and there, iron man and spidey teaming up to fight them and the six forming their own team by the end of the movie in response to the Avengers. It pains me that we'll never get to see that Aunt May solo movie but I can live with that...

"What does Dr. Strange have? Magic tricks? [frick] you, magic tricks..."

That is literally the extent of Goddard "talking shit" about Dr. Strange. Forget the fact that this was revealed in a personal email where he was 100% joking around about a rival studio anyway. If this is the type of thing that's an unforgivable sin, get some thicker skin.

I really hope they just make this a high school 'teen' drama. It'll be a new layer within the MCU we haven't delved into yet.

Dude, Goddard was just taking a light jab at what was his competition. Seriously, you guys need to stop taking everything everyone says seriously.
