Kodi Smit-McPhee has received a great deal of praise for past roles in movies like The Road and Let Me In, and he's undoutedly one of the most exciting additions to Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse. The 18 year old will play Nightcrawler in the movie, but when the site asked if he's looking bacl on Alan Cumming's performance in X-2, the youngster was quick to point out that he'll be doing more than just an imitation. "I don’t try to avoid it, and I don’t try to keep it in mind. I just let things come naturally. Because it is the Marvel Universe and X-Men and there are a lot of people expecting a lot of things, I did a huge amount of research on anyone who has portrayed it and even in the comics and the cartoons and live action. I just followed Nightcrawler’s story. I feel very honored and grateful to be expressing that now. I can’t wait." that sounds like the right approach, and one which should comic book fans very happy after Cumming's humourless version.
After revealing that he was always Singer's first choice to play the character, Smit-McPhee went on to talk about why Nightcrawler is being brought back in X-Men: Apocalypse and why the character didn't make a cameo appearance in X-Men: Days of Future Past last year. "I think Bryan said that he thought that it just wasn’t the right time because there were already so many mutants in it and after reading the script now, I can see what they’re doing. They have the ability to bring these younger characters in now, so I think a lot of the people who know the traditional origins of where this came from will be very happy." Could that mean we'll see Nightcrawler interact with his mother, Mystique? As always, share your thoughts and theories on this in the usual place!
