X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Concept Art Officially Released; Simon Kinberg Reveals New Story Details

We saw some ok quality scans yesterday, but Empire has now officially released a new batch of X-Men: Apocalypse concept art. As well as a look at the Blackbird and Archangel, we get to hear from Simon Kinberg on Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm all taking on leading roles, not just cameos...

There's been a lot of grumbling about the sheer amount of mutants that X-Men: Apocalypse appears to be cramming in, but fear not, because regardless of how many cameos the movie ends up featuring, the three who matter will be taking on well-deserved leading roles. "They’re as much a part
of the movie as our main cast," writer and producer Simon Kinberg says of Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, and Alexandra Shipp. "Scott is not yet the squeaky-clean leader. Storm is
a troubled character who is going down the wrong path in life. And Jean is complex, interesting and not fully mature. It’s fun to see someone struggling with their powers when you know one day they’ll become the most powerful person in the world." Director Bryan Singer meanwhile promises an X-Men movie very different to what's come before, and that's mostly down to the addition of Oscar Isaac's Apocalypse. "It’s a big monster of a movie. The stakes are so high and global and the villain
is so mythic. It’s definitely an X-Men movie, but it really feels different."

As well as returning cast members James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Ian McKellen, X-Men: Apocalypse will also introduce Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Lana Condor, Oscar Isaac, Ben Hardy, Olivia Munn, and a number of others. That's one hell of a cast, huh? The movie is set to be released on May 27th, 2016.

Neat. I guess this is either the X-Wing or some super high-tech Apocalypse gear.

Singer's franchise won't end with this or with Wolverine 3, it's going to end with a loose adaptation of the Battle of the Atom story arc, featuring mutants from the past, present, and future.

With the rebooting of the timeline (after DOFP), introduction of an entirely new cast in Apocalypse, and the chance that Kingberg or someone else, as opposed to Singer, will take reigns of the franchise means that yes it is the “end of the Bryan Singer X-Men universe” but certainly not the end in general. Kinberg has already discussed plans for the post-Apocalypse X-Men so Elmayimbe's rumor is either bullshit or misinterpreted.

This is my 2nd most anticipated movie of the years behind BvS

@Nick56

I'm pretty sure Battle of the Atom will conclude everything in this franchise, unless Fox decides to continue.

Kinberg said a week ago “The result of the aftermath of ‘Apocalypse’ is something that will impact the course of history in the world in much the same way that the end of ‘Days of Future Past’ did.” and said that the film would change the X-Men universe. Coupled with the rumoured inclusion of Old Magneto in Apocalypse, Old Prof. X in Wolverine 3 its very likely that these two films will indeed retire the original singer stuff and instead continue with the new cast of apocalypse free of any continuity restraints.

Apocalypse needs to be FULLY mocap. That's the only way to do him. And I'm glad that Magneto isn't the villain this time around.

I'm predicting the ending will result in these young X-Men ending up in the present, leading to what I've been talking about.
