These FANTASTIC FOUR Behind The Scenes Issues Are Why Josh Trank Was Fired From STAR WARS

As you will have heard by now, Josh Trank is no longer directing one of the Star Wars Anthology movies. Based on this new report about his behaviour during the shooting of Fantastic Four, he won't be helming the sequel to that either! In fact, the reboot sounds like a real mess...

Rumours started doing the rounds during Fantastic Four production that there were some behind the scenes problems, and THR has confirmed many of those in a piece on Lucasfilm and Disney deciding to part ways with Josh Trank over their untitled Star Wars Anthology movie. One insider describes the Chronicle helmer's behaviour as "erratic" and at times "very isolated", and add that he offered no clear direction. "If you've got someone who can't answer questions or who isn't sure or is in hiding, that's not good," they add about what sounds like a very troubled shoot.

Fox responded to this by saying that they are "very happy with the movie and we can’t wait for audiences to see it," but acknowledge: "There were definitely some bumps in the road." Those include Trank running up $100,000 worth of damage to a house which was rented for him in New Orleans while Fantastic Four was being filmed in the city, while he's also been described by some as indecisive and uncommunicative. Though Trank remained on set, producers Simon Kinberg and Hutch Parker were forced to step in and "help pull the film together", and were heavily involved in those reshoots. The production also had to add Stephen Rivkin (Avatar) to help pull the film together, despite the fact that Trank had hired his Chronicle editor, Elliot Greenberg, on the project.

When Kinberg reported all of these issues to Disney and Lucasfilm, they decided to not work with him, and you have to imagine that Fox won't want him back for Fantastic Four 2. Does that mean the movie going to be a mess? It's really too soon to tell, but it's not looking good. Somewhere, Kevin Feige has a huge grin on his face right now! As always, share your thoughts below!

Still Can't wait for the movie. Titanic, Mad Max Fury Road, Jaws, and other films had gone through the same thing.

JOSH TRANK: "I would just like to add in terms of the question of pick-ups or the implication of issues at hand, we had a seventy-two day shoot for principal photography. We were on-schedule and on-budget and we had a great shoot. I run a really tight ship as a director because I take those days very seriously. I take every day very seriously in terms of what we need to accomplish, what we need to get done with the actors. And I just like being on time. For instance, Chronicle was like a thirty-four day shoot. This was twice as long as that so you really have to pace yourself throughout. And shooting a movie this big, this is my first time shooting a movie that’s this long, you get to the editing room and you’re surprised by the stuff you didn’t anticipate would work so well. And just like Simon was saying, you see those little connective things that you didn’t even realize and you’re like “God, I’d like to grab that up.” And what’s been so cool is that the studio has been very happy to make that happen because they’re so excited about the movie. If that makes sense."

I wouldn't want to put up with that shit either, glad Lucasfilm doesn't want to work with someone like that.

I'm still hopeful for Fantastic Four, the trailers look awesome to me, and Fox seems pretty confident in this.

Hopefully Josh Trank gets his shit together soon. I want to see him get more big budget projects

Everyone boycott the movie so it bombs and hopefully Fox'll work out a co-ownership with Marvel ala Spiderman.

If these claims are to believed then I'll express that no matter the BS Trank made the cast and crew endure, I still believe the film will be good. Turmoil behind the scenes only dictates the quality of a product if there isn't a team apt to arrange the mess, and Kinberg & Parker, and Rivkin are more than able.

Would I want Trank back to direct the sequel to Fantastic Four? Not if he puts the crew through this, but I still believe the final product will be exceptional.

Also I would be depressed if I lost the chance to direct Star Wars. Trank must be devastated.

@ALegendaryPanda - "Fox seems pretty confident in this." What, you mean like the public relations lies that every movie studio tells right before a movie comes out? Like Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez and Columbia Pictures told right before 'Gigli' dropped on the world? I'm not biting. This has disaster written all over it. I'll wait for actual reviews...

May even crossover with X-men just to keep it.

No one really knows the final product. From what I've seen, I am intrigued enough to go see it. Whether it's good or bad is a whole other thing entirely. I just hate it when people make calls without seeing the movie.
