Director Shortlist And Plot Details Revealed For Marvel And Sony SPIDER-MAN Reboot

Despite reports that Drew Goddard was being lined up to direct Marvel's Spider-Man reboot, Deadline has revealed a list of filmmakers being considered for the job, and they're a varied bunch! We also have details on the tone and plans for a three to four movie arc Marvel wants to explore...

We heard some time ago that Sony wanted Marvel to allow Drew Goddard to move from writing and directing Sinister Six to their Spider-Man reboot, but it appears as if they're still not happy about the way he left Daredevil, as a new shortlist has now emerged via Deadline. It's an interesting list of filmmakers, and one which makes a lot of sense given the fact that they're planning a reboot which will be a "coming of age tale" with a tone similar to "John Hughes humor and emotion."

Those in the mix include Jonathan Levine (50/50), Ted Melfi (St. Vincent), Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect), John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein (Vacation), and Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite). It sounds like a decision could be made as soon as by the end of next week.

The site also reveals that Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are possibly plotting a series of three or four movies, each one of which will cover a year in the life of Peter Parker in high school, exploring that area of his life like never before. He'll have also already been bitten by the spider by the time we meet him in Captain America: Civil War next year. Who would you guys like to see helm the Spider-Man reboot? As always, be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place.

I would love to see Johnathan Levine take the reigns. Warm Bodies really surprised me by how good it was, and if he can bring that kind of wit and charm to Spider-Man than sign me up.

Jonathan Levine! He was also up for Doctor Strange.

50/50 and The Wackness are great, and the upcoming XMas sounds funny as hell.

@Spideyshawn Given the way Goddard left Marvel, there's no way he's touching this.

Marvel flexed their muscles and ousted Goddard despite Sony wanting to keep him for this.

I would've wanted Goddard but I'll take Levine cause he balanced humor and drama so well in 50/50. And I love the sound of john Hughes humor

Good. A Spider-Man film SHOULD actually have humor in it.

If he's already been bitten and the idea is to cover a year in high school, then.....Peter gets bitten in like the eighth grade?

Levine is the best option here, I would go for him. No matter how you spin it, this will be something we've seen before spidey has been done so much now the only thing I can see happening that'll suprise us is Kravens last hunt

They should introduce Spidey in the Dare Devil series.. Or at the very least throw in some connections. A casually dressed Peter Parker cameo even.. Do it!

Levine is my pick. 50/50 was a very good film. we can't be quick to judge. the Russos came from a comedy background too

All I want to see is both Spider-Man, X-Men, Daredevil and FF brought to the MCU. If both FOX and Sony had mercy, this all could've been brilliant years ago.

Jonathan Levine is an excellent choice. He seems to be able to play to the more youthful skewing direction Marvel is wanting. This definitely will be a different Spider-Man than we've seen with the other movies. They are really playing up the teen angst and humor for the character. So far I'm liking what I'm hearing about this new incarnation.

Plot details three years before the movie hahaha, damn you journalism.
Soon we will have major character deaths spoiled 5 years prior :P

Jonathan Levine would do a great job. Not to sure about Jared Hess though. I wasn't a fan of napoleon dynamite at all. Plus a coming of age story over the course of 3/4 movies? that sounds like he won't really become the full spider-man we know and love until his final movie. Can't say i'm a fan of that idea either. But we'll see how it turns out. Either way...
