WATCH: Hugh Jackman Confirms That THE WOLVERINE 3 Will Be His Final X-MEN Movie

He teased it, and The Wolverine 3 director James Mangold confirmed it, but if you're still in doubt about Hugh Jackman's future as Logan, then prepare to have your heart broken by this video of the Australian actor revealing why he's decided that it's time to hang up his claws...

In the video above (apologies for the poor quality), Hugh Jackman reiterates that 2017's Wolverine movie will be the final time he plays the character. There have been rumours that Bryan Singer is moving on after X-Men: Apocalypse - presumably so the franchise can focus on the new actors playing younger versions of the likes of Cyclops and Jean Grey - and so it makes sense that The Wolverine 3 will be a farewell of sorts to the original timeline which kicked off back in 2000.

"It is my last time," Jackman said in an interview earlier today in his home country. "It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it.I kind of have in my head what we’re going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out."

It's not clear if a new Wolverine will be cast of whether Fox are going to put the character on the shelf for a few years, but Jackman's time as the clawed mutant is over. Will you be sad to see him go? And who should take over? As always, be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

Despite it not following the comics well and not doing the best job, Hugh is a legend in the role. I admire his true dedication to the role, both in his physical form and the countless amount of time spent on it.

I wonder if they'll recast or just give Wolverine a break. I can't really imagine the character being as big of a draw without Jackman attached.

And they do have Fassbender's Magneto as a potential replacement. People really love him.

He really did do a great, great job as Logan, too bad we never got to see Wolverine in all that time. Imagine 20 years of just Bruce Wayne, Tony Stark or Clark Kent.

He may not be the most accurate representation of the character, but Hugh will always be synonymous with wolverine. I don't think hes been given enough credit for how dedicated he in playing the character.

Hope he goes out on top in Wolverine 3. :)

Am I the only one who thinks it would be relatively easy to do OML? Just replace Hawkeye with Gambit, Red Skull with Magneto, and Hulk with the Blob. And there you have it.

@AlexanderLykins I'm still waiting for the first time Fox catches it! If anything they did for Deadpool... Reynolds was born for that role.

Hugh was always a miscast. Although I love him as a person and thank him for the memories, I hope we get a short, scruffy actor this time around.

Tom Hardy anyone?

No disrespect to Hugh because he was so dedicated to this role, but hopefully now we get to see a proper Wolverine on screen in his true iconic costume.

Well bad writing definitely didn't help. But it wouldn't have been quite as bad had the actor cast suited the role.

Casting is very important and once you have cast someone and know who the actor is that will be portraying that character, that can have a big influence on the writing.
