TRANSFORMERS Spinoff Writers Found; THE WALKING DEAD's Robert Kirkman Among Them

The Transformers franchise is about to get a whole lot bigger, with plans for new instalments in the main series and a number of spinoffs. A writer's room has been created to tackle these, and along with the creator of The Walking Dead, they've found some great talent...

It was revealed a little earlier this year that Paramount and their Transformers brain trust (made up of Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura) had turned to Akiva Goldsman to come up with ideas for new instalments of the main Transformers franchise along with a number of spinoffs. Part of that including creating a writer's room, and it has some very impressive names!

According to Deadline, it will be made up of The Walking Dead's Robert Kirkman, Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk), and Jeff Pinkner (ugh, The Amazing Spider-Man 2). It's too early to say who will be working on what, but it looks like we're going to be getting an entire cinematic universe of Transformers movies. That's hardly a surprise after the success of the franchise, and it's going to be very interesting to see how this develops! Thoughts?

As long as some of the Transformers talk like the Crows in the old school cartoons, count me in! That was some wonderful institutionalized racism in the 2nd one, and I, for one, thought it was delightful.

Impressive they managed to hire a bunch of average to bad writers. Clearly they have learned from the mistakes of the last 4 movies...

I may have no faith in the cgi department to clearly distinguish the Autobots from the Decepticons, and I have no desire to see this flick, but I'm still taking my nieces and nephews to see it when it comes out. That is the purpose this movie will serve, to entertain pre-teens and children.

@montyburns You must really hate your nieces and nephews =P

Seriously though, show them The Lego Movie instead. Or Big Hero 6. Or really any of the Pixar movies. Hell, Inside Out is getting RAVE reviews and first reactions so far. Don't subject them to Transformers. Kids deserve better, higher quality movies than this.

I love Transformeres so I'm pumped for the news. I would however, like to see a different director take on a few movies. Michael Bay has the action down pat but it would be nice to get a different approach toward everything else besides the action.

i recently watched the supposed to be the best Transformers Movie - - the animated one(5/10 but Orson voice, Starscream character and Woman - Autobot rocked) , and i'm pretty sure that besides Unicron storyline there is not much story being left to tell. Part 4 characters (Walhberg, his daughter, Tucci, Gramer) were the best human characters in all four movies, Still the action sucked and the film was way too long.
I still remember that scene when the tech guy was standing next to the wall they were going to blow up and the montage guy(s) decided to leave him so the audience could notice. Nice job.

Also - get rid of Optimus Prime. There is not much to tell in terms of his character anymore. Get some new autobots this time with some dimension.
