Kevin Feige Explains 'Spider-Man''s Place In The MCU And How He Relates To THE AVENGERS

Reiterating the fact that Sony's 2017 Spider-Man movie will most definitely take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kevin Feige explains here how Peter Parker will relate to The Avengers; in fact, it sounds like they're turning to the early Stan Lee/Steve Ditko comics for inspiration...

We all know that Spider-Man will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in next year's Captain America: Civil War, but despite vague comments about characters from that shared world showing up in 2017's Spider-Man movie, it sounds like it may still be pretty self-contained as Sony are still very much in charge despite taking guidance from Marvel Studios. In an interview with Zap2it, Kevin Feige has thankfully put any such doubts to rest. "The biggest thing ... is that it takes place in this universe," he said of the movie which found a star and director earlier this week (more details on that can be found here). "It's the first time that you'll be able to see Spider-Man like he was in the comics, as a very different type of hero when compared to the other heroes in the universe."

Just how will the young Peter Parker view Earth's Mightiest Heroes? For decades, he rarely worked with The Avengers and often came to blow with the team rather than work with them; he was a loner. That all changed with New Avengers of course, but it definitely sounds like Spider-Man won't necessarily be a new addition to the roster just yet. "Up until this point in the other Spidey films, he was the only hero, and now he's not. Now he's a kid in Queens with these powers and has other [superheroes] to look to." As for his role in Captain America: Civil War, Feige added: "Does he want to be like these other characters? Does he want nothing to do with these other characters? How does that impact his experience, being this grounded but super powerful hero? Those are all the things that Stan Lee and Steve Ditko played with in the first 10 years of his comics, and that now we can play with for the first time in a movie." What do you guys think?

I don't think Kevin Feige would make Spidey an Avenger. He gets the character, and knows he always works best as a solo player.

It will be interesting to see how this version of Spider-Man plays out. I personally really want to see Spidey going against Kingpin and I feel like it finally could happen. I see him working more with Daredevil than the Avengers. So I hope Spidey can be on the Daredevil show.

Sam Raimi's Spider-man films also took some inspiration from the Stan Lee run.

I have a feeling that Marvel's Spider-man film is going to be a middle ground between Stan Lee's original run and Bendis's Ultimate run (which was the inspiration for the Marc Webb movies).

Hopefully in the vein of the Spectacular Spider-man cartoon. :)

I doubt SM will connect the Defenders with the Avengers. More likely it'll be Strange given the mystic nature of K'un-Lun.

Yo, I'm so excited for CA: Civil War and for the first time, in a long time, I'm excited for a Spider-Man movie! He doesn't have to be an official Avenger but as long as he's with the team to take down Thanos in IW part 1 & 2!!

Though i would have probably prefered to have seen an older spidey reveal himself and a Kraven solo film. This does sound like an interesting idea if they can actually include one or two of the avengers in some manner. Young cocky kid in this big as universe. No matter what spidey will get my money even if its as bad as the last one.
